Overview
Summary:
o The program of studies for music K-12 is built upon students
learning from prior knowledge. They learn certain knowledge,
skills and attitudes in their elementary grades and then expand
upon them as they progress through the program. In this
program it is essential to have a solid foundation in order to
progress; students need to understand the lower level skills in
order to succeed in the older grades.
Key Points:
o The elementary music level is more basic in the concepts and
skills. There are certain specific learning outcomes that need to
be established and they are nicely displayed in the program of
studies with points on what grade they need to be understood
and then more elaborated.
o The junior high level begins to split into choral, general and
instrumental music. This sees to develop more skills and
concepts.
o Senior high or High school then develops these skills even
deeper, creating a further understanding of music and its
importance.
o The main point brought through the program of studies is that
music is accessible to all.
