HSP Math
Description
HSP Math is geared toward K-6 and is
distributed by Harcourt School
Publishers, but it is a very helpful tool no
matter what textbook your school
happens to be using. There are number of
different domains to practice math and
test yourself with including numbers,
geometry, measurement and time and
money among many others.
This website has multiple pre-made
games to test and quiz students
knowledge of math. The quizzes range
anywhere from addition and subtraction
to fractions and multiplication. As
students understand the concept they are
learning, they can then create new games
themselves, which helps them learn the
concept even deeper.

Digital Citizenship:
How Can I Be A
Good
Digital Citizen?
Description
This Webquest is for grades K-2 and
focuses specifically on teaching children
how to use technology properly by way
of making a podcast with another student
(in accordance with ISTE standard 5). It
provides students with videos to learn
how to create their own podcast and use
technology in a productive manner.
This Webquest is for grades 3-5 and
focuses on the environment, specifically
biomes that we live in. The students will
make a Power Point with other students
describing the biome that they live in
after researching allowing them to create
a product on their own after prior
education on a biome.

Summary of Implementation:
In regards to the reading websites I found, I think I would use each one of the websites at
some point during the academic year. I would use the We Give Books website as a weekly tool
in the classroom. This website would be used as a reward for the students. We Give Books has
so many different books to choose from and every time a book is read on the website, another is
donated to those who do not have access to books. I like the idea of using it as a reward because
it allows students to get their work done and supports a good cause for education. I would also
allow students to have the option to read the virtual books to each other to improve their out loud
reading skills. Ideally, each child would have access to an iPad in my classroom, but if that were
not possible then a few computers would be sufficient to allow technology to be effectively
integrated into the classroom. I would also use Between the Lions as a reward since that
website has animated and narrated stories for the students to watch. I would, however, make this
reward more rare on a monthly basis instead of a weekly basis. I would use Giggle Poetry as a
tool to use in a specific lesson. When my students get to the poetry lesson in language arts, I
would introduce this website. This website would allow my students to interact with poetry
individually and provide them with examples of poetry to get ideas from and imitate what they
are learning. Lastly, I would use the International Childrens Digital Library for ESL students
specifically, as well as my English-speaking students. This resource would help ease ESL
students into English reading and would provide English-speaking students with access to books
in other languages.
Concerning the math websites, I would use the HSP Math website as a daily or weekly
tool to help students understand what is being taught. For example, if the students were learning
telling time on a certain day, I would reiterate that concept by having the students play a game
that helps them tell time easily and in a fluid manner. I would use the Create Your Own
Interactive Game at the end of a lesson because the students would need a good understanding
of a certain topic to be able to create a game on it. I also think the Create You Own Game
would be more than beneficial to the student because it is a form of review to make the game and
then actually play the game. The National Library of Virtual Manipulatives would also be a good
resource to use after the initial teaching of a new topic. This resource would be helpful in giving
the students a hands-on activity in a virtual atmosphere. I think this website is the epitome of
what virtual learning should be. Students are able to manipulate and understand a topic deeper
with this resource. Lastly, there is Math-A-Rama which is a website that provides different
games for all of the grade levels within elementary education. This resource is especially helpful
because it breaks down the review games and test preparation into the individual grades level of
the elementary school. I would use this resource as a review at the end of a lesson because it
involves test preparation as well as review games. I would use also use Math-A-Rama as a
weekly resource to use in the math lesson because it contains manipulatives, test preparation and
review games, so it is essentially a one-stop shop for a plethora of resources. The manipulatives
section of Math-A-Rama could be used via SMART board communication so the class as a
whole can be involved on some level.
The science websites that I was able to locate for elementary education were very diverse
in the information and tools they presented. I would use the Energy Quest website as an in-class
activity that we would look at as a whole class. I think this resource would be helpful to look at
on a SMART board. I think the Climate Kids resource would be a good resource for students to
look at closely and individually. If the students look at this resource individually, then they will
have the chance to look at their favorite environmental factor and report on the details of that
factor. I would use this resource and turn it into a project for the students to report on to help
them learn more about a factor they are interested to keep class fun, exciting and interactive. As
for Catching the Science Bug website, I think this website could be used as an optional
resource for the student to become more engaged with the subject of science if they choose. I
would use this as a fun activity that the students could use if they finished their science
classwork that day. As for the My Garbology website, I think this was a very useful tool for
elementary aged students to know about in general. Every student should know how to classify
garbage to help keep our environment clean. So, I would make this an activity in class that each
student would participate in either on their iPad or computer. A resource like this promotes
healthy and responsible citizens that contribute positively to the environment.
As for the Presentation tools, I think that I would use each one of these in my classroom.
I would use Glogster once or twice during the year for the students to create projects off of. With
Glogster, students could create reports for historical figures or to make presentations on their
favorite animal. This resource would require some assistance from the teacher at first, but would
ultimately be a very useful tool to learn a great amount about a particular subject or idea. In
contrast to Glogster, I would use Educreations more because it is a tool that students can easily
use on a daily or weekly basis. With Educreations, I would have the students work in pairs to
complete an interactive worksheet and I would most likely use this tool with math or science.
Lastly, I would the Show Me website personally. I would use this tool for at least one lesson per
unit, I would create a Show Me presentation, complete with voice over and writing while
explaining the lesson. I would also have the students create a Show Me presentation at least once
during the year in a group. I would use this tool on upper elementary grades since they are
developing a better sense of how to work in a group versus a younger elementary student.
Concerning the Webquests, I would use the Digital Citizenship: How Can I Be a Good
Digital Citizen? within the first week or two of being in school for any grade from Kindergarten
to second grade. This webquest is vital in understanding what to do and what not to do while
active on the Internet or just dealing with technology in general. Young elementary aged students
have probably had access to the Internet before entering formal school, but probably did not
receive the necessary information to stay safe while using technology. This webquest is also
extremely beneficial because it covers standard five of the ITSE standards concerning
technology. I would use the other webquest entitled Biomes: Which one do you live in? as an
opening activity for a science lesson on the environment, specifically on ecosystems and biomes.
A webquest that is specific and detailed such as the Biome one will allow students to get an in
depth look on a specific subject before even learning the entire lesson.
