UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:

This lesson plan is a part of a unit plan on English and Literature.
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
After completing the story, the student will be able to provide their own opinion using Audioboom with 80%
accuracy.
Note any goals or expectations related to student participation in the lesson.

STANDARDS ADDRESSED:

Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion,
supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure.
Creativity and Innovation; B: Create original works as a means of personal or group expression.

MATERIALS:
Computer with internet access, pencil and paper, whiteboard.
Technology will be used for the students to access the story and for them to do a voice recording of their
opinions. The students story will be found on http://www.starfall.com/n/fiction-nonfiction/house-intree/play.htm?f and Audioboom for the voice recording.
BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:
The key concepts consist of: comprehension of text, and formulating own opinion.
The critical language that will be learned in this lesson is: opinion.
This lesson connects with previous lessons by reading and taking summaries of stories and making their own
opinion of the story.
The continuous use of Audioboom in varies ways after reading stories; etc: opinions, summaries, and book
reports.
The lesson use will be modified to meet the needs of diverse learners.
PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:
Introduction: I will begin the lesson with background information on the lesson and story and explain
computer procedures.
Procedures: Before lesson: Have all websites being used for the lesson already on

each computer screen being used.

10:00-10:15- Enter computer lab. Introduction of the lesson to the students.
Question: Does anyone know what an opinion is? Follow up: Give definition of opinion and
explain into details.
10:15-10:30: Have students silently read the online story to themselves. While
students are reading, I will be walking around to answer any possible questions.
10:30-10:40: I will go to the whiteboard. Questions: What was the story about? What
is the setting? Who or what is the main character of this story? Writing all key points on
the board for all the students to see.

10:40-11:00: Have students physically write their own opinions on a sheet of paper.
I will verbally ask questions to the class about the story. Questions: What did you think of
the story? What did you like? What did you not like? Would you like to read this story
again?
11:00-11:40: Go to the Audioboom tab. Let each student record the favorite part of
their opinion, the ones they wrote, one at a time. When recording is finished I will save it,
and replay it for the entire class to hear.
Lessons will be differentiated for students with different backgrounds by a physical
copy of the story or me taking students to the side and reading aloud to them.

Closure: To conclude my lesson, I would reflect on the lesson by asking students questions on the story and
how did they like recording their responses.

ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE:
Was the student able to form an opinion and use Audioboom with 80% accuracy?
MODIFICATIONS:

I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part
of this particular lesson.
