Students will clear desks from last subject and walk with minimal talking to
the carpet. They will sit crisscross, applesauce, hands in their laps. They
will turn their listening ears on.
*Students will behave according to the guidelines we set up at the
beginning of the year for carpet time. They will sing with me, answer
questions, be respectful of their friends and they will not blurt out answers.
Not sure on this yet.I was thinking of having the alphabet song play while
they were transitioning. So they would be singing the song before we even
got to the carpet.
Transitions and Intro 2 min.
Carpet time 5 min.
Center time 25 min.
Independent work 10 min.
Review- Read book 5 min.
Closure 3 min.
This portion of the lesson will be the carpet time. We will sing the Aa song.
Then we will review four words that begin with the letter A. We will use
our hand scissors and segment these words. We will also go over our new
sight word for the day which is ANDwe will sound it out together and
then identify it smoothly.
This portion of the lesson will be centers. The centers will include,
handwriting, manipulates (play dough to make the letter Aa), Computers,
Math, small group reading, Identification and segmentation center. The
students will rotate every 5 minutes to the next center.
Independent practice will be a worksheet. I will read the directions and
decode any unknown words to the class. The students will answer the
questions independently. They will move onto a handwriting sheet after this
is finished. When everyone is done with their work we will meet again at
the carpet and read our review book.
We will read our book back at the carpet to end the lesson. This book
includes several words that begin with the letter Aa. So I can make sure that
the students are grasping these concepts.

many of you have questions about what we did today? Is anyone still
unclear about the sound the letter A makes? How do we feel about our new
sight word AND? OkHere is our at home practice sheets for tonight and
