Article Title: Cell Phones in the Classroom: Are we Dialing up Disaster?

Briefly explain the main topic of the article: This article focused on the
effectiveness of cell phone use in the classroom. A pilot program was
performed in a school and on the first day of school the students and teachers
came up with the rules for the use of cell phones in the classroom. During the
pilot they ran into a few problems but overall the pilot was successful and it
was deemed that many gains had been made throughout the year.

List five significant points made: (1) All students may not have access to a cell
phone (2) Modifications must be made for students with disabilities (3) Phones
could be used as a research tool (4) Parent involvement was very important to
the success of the pilot (5) Teachers needed to be aware of the devices and
what could happen with the use of them in the classroom.

Share new information, fresh insight or innovative point of view: The article
makes great points for the use of cellphones in class and gives ways to make
sure students that cannot access the phone use have accommodations.

Describe how this article provoked thought on your part or influenced your
attitude: I feel that cell phones in the classroom is not an effective way to
integrate technology. This article made me consider the things that could
happen in a classroom if cellphones are used. In the pilot, the school was
successful with the use of cellphones, however, I feel cellphones are an
uncontrolled device that would causes more problems than successes. I
believe the students would be on multiple websites and apps that were not
education connected.

React to the total articleyour classroom connection: I think that cellphone


use in the classroom is not for my class. In my school there is a problem with
students texting, using Instagram, and Facebook while in class, I feel that if we
give the students permission to use cellphone that problem will increase. The
article does open up the discussion of cellphone use in class but as for me and
my class, I dont feel we are ready for that step.

can integrate technology into their classroom. Technology is important to have in
schools because students come in with a great sense on how to use different
types of technology. It is important that teachers find ways to use technology in
the classroom and this article gives a few ideas.

List five significant points made: (1) Teachers tend to value technology that
aids in parent-teacher communication (2) A teachers belief values play a major
role in the instruction they choose (3) Tech tools are just TOOLS they only assist
with technology (4) Teachers must value technology to use it in their classroom.
So, the change must begin with the teacher (5) Using technology in the
classroom could stage a way for students to reap the benefits of technologyembedded instruction well into their futures.

will be integrated in to the classroom when the teacher see that it is of value. In a
world were technology is all around in needs to be in the classroom as well.

attitude: I feel that this article gives me ideas that would be simple enough to
use in my classroom. Technology can be integrated into the classroom in many
different ways and if technology is effectively used it could have great benefits
for students and their education in the future.

great in introducing ways that a teacher who has little to no experience with
integrating technology can use technology in the classroom.
