Executive Summary

The main purpose of this document is to provide readers of the Messy Hands for Many Hands
chicken wing competition information. From Sponsorship to swot, readers will learn in
summary form the ins and outs of the event.
Messy Hands for Many Hands is a chicken wing competition where local vendors compete for
the best wing. There will be 8-10 local vendors entered in the competition giving the
attendees a chance to test a pound of wings. Each attendee will receive a ballot to score the
wings that they like best and feel they deserve to win. There will be drinks, prizes,
entertainment and delicious food. It will be held on Saturday March 19 th from 1-4pm. Our
event is family friendly. There will be a live band or a local radio station playing classic rock
music and there will be cooking demos going on. Our goal is to raise $2500 that will be
donated to the Many Hands Recipient The Hope Center. We will be getting sponsors and inkind donations for our raffles. Our ticket price is $25 and we will be selling them in advance
to the event. We will be promoting our event through social media and advertising. The
venue is still to be determined but will be in the St. Catharines area. We would like to use a
local brewing company to also bring awareness to their brand.

2. Sponsorship
The Messy Hands for Many Hands sponsorship packages will have 3 Levels, Cajun, Sweet n
Saucy and Classic. We are anticipating securing Pintys and/or Big Red Meats as well as a
local craft brewery for our Cajun level. We are investigating securing a hot sauce company
such as Pepper Palace for our Sweet n Saucy level. All donations in-kind or monetary will be
at the Classic level with respective acknowledgements. Messy Hands for Many Hands will
have 2 main sponsors secured by November 15th. Here is a snapshot of our packages.

3.

Marketing

Messy Hands for Many Hands target market is, young adults between 20-30 years of
age, second is adults from 40-50 and third is adults between 30-40. We are
expecting attendees to be more male than female, due to our theme of chicken
wings and beer. Attendees will most likely be customers of the local bars and pubs
that we are using, classic rock listeners and also friends and family.
Our advertising ideas have started with our logo, tag line, a website through
Niagara College, and our save the date flyers. Before the middle of November, we
will have our posters, and flyers created to be handed and posted for promotion.
Our posters will be put up at Niagara College, along with our vendors restaurants
and the brewery that will be attending our event.
We will also be using, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag
#messyhands to promote our event, and during the event to gain photos, tweets
and posts about the event. One form of advertising we are doing in January is, going
to our sponsors restaurant wearing our event t-shirts and catching peoples interest
of our event, since they are already people who like the wings that are going to be
included.
One month prior to our event we will begin with a radio press release on a classic
rock station such as 97.7fm to capture our audience. Next during our event we will
be having a TV press release with TV Cogeco.

4. Finance
Messy Hands for Many Hands will have three main revenue sources. The first is
admission to the event. The committee will be selling tickets in person and through
a website like Eventbrite. Option one is a regular ticket priced at $25 including
admission, a sample wing from each vendor, one alcoholic drink (with I.D.), and an
entry into the door prizes. The second option is a student ticket priced at $20, with
proof that the buyer attends school. This ticket includes everything the regular
ticket offers with a five-dollar discount. The third option is a family package priced
at $60. A family package is for two adults and two children. A child will be anyone
12 and under. The package consists of admission for four, two alcoholic drinks, two
non-alcoholic drinks, sample wings, two door prize tickets, and entry to our kid
zone. Tickets for additional children will be five dollars each. The second source is
the raffle and door prizes. Raffle tickets are going to be sold for 50 cents each and
door prize tickets for one dollar each. The third main source is food and beverage.
Kettle chips will be sold for one dollar per bag and a small revenue will be generated
off alcohol sales. Total estimated revenue is expected to be $11,410.
Expenses for the event are split into six categories. Site is the first, examples are
rental costs, signs, and the bar. Total estimated site costs come to $757. Next is
Dcor. Overall estimated costs are $332 and include elements like centerpieces and
a welcome banner. Event Consumables such as tickets sum up to $355. Flyers and
ads are under Publicity and estimated costs are $240. Volunteer expenses are tshirts, food, and manuals. These costs round up to $468. The most expensive

category is Food and Beverage totalling at $1,674. The total estimated expenses

SWOT

Internal:
Strengths - Messy Hands for Many Hands is a group of Event Management professionals from
Niagara College, with college support, educational support as well as an established
reputation in the industry. Our team is composed of passionate, talented and professional
members with different backgrounds which could provide a different perspective on all
aspects.
As our event is building on the very popular and likable topic, chicken wings and beer. We
have a massive potential market already because of that. According to our survey, 95 out of
100 people like chicken wings and a variety of wing flavors in our event could meet different
expectations. The innovations and improvements which add plenty of entertainment and
WOW factors are things such as a demo presentation and a live band.
Weaknesses - Even with event experiences, Messy Hands for Many Hands is our first project
as a team. Therefore, we are building our brand awareness from the ground up. We do not
have endless financial support like corporations so we have to work harder on our
sponsorship and fund raising. Considering the time of the event is the last day of March
break, it could be our strength as well as weakness due to weather conditions and personal
arrangements. Food variety is being taking into consideration, currently we only have
chicken wing vendors, beer vendors and kettle chips, so lack of food choice is our concern.

External:
Opportunity - In Niagara Region, so far this is the only chicken wing competition event
happening in the month of March. That will help us in the competition.
We are glad to have the support of Niagara College with their experience with events, which
is going to be very helpful. Our teachers are available to guide us and offer the best tools in
making this event one of the best in the area.
As an established tourism industry, Niagara could bring tourists to our event. Depending on
the research in tourism, Niagara Falls brings a huge amount of tourists every year
(12.000.000), they could be our potential attendees.
Planning this event is a great opportunity to make connections with local vendors/suppliers,
farms and musicians. Through this event, we could support our local vendors, promote our
local foods and build our relationship with them. We will also raise awareness of our event
and the Many Hands project in the Niagara Region.
Threats - One of the biggest threats is the weather conditions. As the event will be held in
March, there is a possibility of the snow storm or the low temperatures.
Messy Hands event will compete with annual chicken wings events like Pepper Palace Wings
Fest, Wing-Ding: Rotary Club of Lincoln Chicken Wings and the Blues Festival, etc., as well as
the chicken wing nights in the local bars and pubs.
Every event could face low attendance. There is a risk of guest and volunteers not showing
due to weather conditions or personal reasons.
