Notes and Summarization

By Matthew Arenas, Steven Sanchez, Bryan Castaneda,

Scott (Peter) Choma

Positives
Concentration and Understanding - When lecture may be boring, Note
taking might help a student stay focused and engaged.
Remember/Memorization- Students who tend to write down material,
are more likely to remember the content.
Refer and Revise - If good notes are taken, students can look back at
material and they can review for understanding and studying
purposes.

Negatives
Drill & Kill - Some students can not keep up with traditional lectures if
they are too fast paced. Students can get lost in the translation and
give up on the material.
Lack of Preparation - Note-taking is not consistently taught to all
students in classes and if it is some students do not retain the
information necessary to be successful in that practice.
Self-motivation - If a student does not have the motivation to take clear
and concise notes then when he or she gets home they will be lost
during studying since they can not make sense of said notes.
