Language Arts
-

Students use background knowledge from other


subjects to create a postcard from space

Students will create an image on the front of the


card with a variety of materials to show their
adventure through space

On the back of the postcard, students will write a


story about a journey they took to space using
figurative language

Another idea for this would be astronaut journal to


create a day by day story about an adventure in
space, including different pictures

Language Arts
Students create a sky
journal after observing
clouds outside at the
beginning of the lesson
and reading the book It
Looked Like Spilt Milk.
Students will write
about what cloud
shapes they saw in the
sky and create that
shape using cotton
balls. They would tell
stories about why the
clouds were those
shapes and what
shape they would want
to be if they were a
cloud.

Students are
assigned an
emotion. They will
then illustrate what
their emotion looks
like. Students will
then write a short
story about why that
character feels the
way they do and
explain what that
emotion looks like.

Math
Students use different colors to indicate
those who live in their house. This not
only tells a story of their family, but they
can then count how many people or
animals live in each household. They
can also do similar projects to this like
drawing a house and counting the
number of windows, cars in driveway,
etc.

Students have stories given to them


about different people and what they
have. They are then to solve the
problem based on the story/situation
given.

Students roll a random number generator and draw


the shape that they land on. After they have a complete
body then they will write a story about their monster they
have.

Science
This lesson will be most beneficial if it is
spread over 2-3 days.
We first begin this lesson, on the first
day, by talking about what students see
in the sky during the nighttime. After that
discussion, the class watches The Story
of the Solar System to learn about the
Milky Way and solar system and
compare it to what they already knew.
On the second day, the students are split
into groups and are assigned their
project. These groups must create
posters that represent facts that they
learned from the video with a 3D
representation of the planet they are
discussing.

For the final day, the


students display their
boards and give a short
presentation on what they
learned about the solar
system.
The main theme for this
project is for students to
identify and research facts
about our solar system and
how the planets are all
connected.

Science
Students will first listen to the story Fossils Tell
of Long Ago as a read aloud. The story gives
them background information on the story
behind a fossil. The book may answer
important questions for the student such as,
How is it created? What is it made of and who
made it? How did it get there?
Then Students will be given clay and various
small animals to create their own fossils. They
will place the animals firmly in the clay until
there is an impression. The next day the class
will go back and look at the dried fossil
remains. They may share their own fossil story
related to the animal they chose and their
finished fossil with the class.

Social Studies-Geography
Student will read about landform in a region.
Watch Pixars Lava short film.
Student will be split into groups- each group will be given a
landform to research.
Each group will be given the time to create a short video,
personifying the landform they were assigned. This can be
done using iMovie, or easily with lego movie. The movie
should portray facts that have to do with the landform
(location, peoples relation to landform, and its relevance to
the region).
