Anti bullying efforts cannot be successful if they make teenagers feel victimized without
providing them the support to go from a position of victimization to one of empowerment
(Bullying as True Drama.). How can Cyber Bullying be prevented? This question can be
brainstormed, but when it comes down to it; my stance is that parents should have knowledge of
their childrens computer information and control just how much exposure social media you
allow them to have. There are a few strategies on how parents can be control this: parents can
move their computer in an area of the house that is the busiest like a family room or living room.
Parents should regularly check their childs friends list after assisting their children in setting
up t e-mails and passwords so you can see who they are talking too; and who makes an attempt
to talk them on social media. (National Crime Prevention Council)
How do we teach our children when they face a cyberbully? First we should explain to
them to not respond. Many times the bully is waiting for your reaction, so tell them not to feed
into the bully. It gives them the power over them. The second step is to not retaliate against the
bully. Retaliation will make them a bully as well. It is also important that you insist they save
the messages. The only good part about cyber bullying is that the messages can usually be saved
and taken to the proper authorities who can help.
The issue of bullying is being viewed more as a crime today. Why does bullying happen?
There several reasons why it to occurs. In many cases, pre-teens and teens are the age group that
most likely will bully each other. So why does this occur? There are few explanations which
include: these bullies think its fun, or they feel they will be viewed as popular. The potential
bullies feel that bullying makes they feel powerful, or they feel they will get their way get their
way. The bullies are most likely any lack confidence so bullying is their way to fit in with certain
group of kids. Bullies are usually afraid of differences in others or they are simply jealous of the
other person.
Regrettably, bully sometimes is not dealt with in an effective manner. There a many
instances children who are being bullied have the tendency to not know just how to deal with
their bullies. Unfortunately bullying can end negatively; one example for negative results is that
bullying can increase chances physical violence; murder; and unfortunately suicide. It is sad
when bullying ends in physical violence; so that is the reason there needs to be effective efforts
in an effort to fight cyber bullying before it ends in physical violence and self harm. Many
times, if bullying does not stop; then it may reach to a level of fatal decisions which include
murder and suicide. The negative results of continued can mean that the bully or the bullied will
make an attempt to murder the bully or vice versa. The bully or bullied could possibly decide to
go on a planned rampage. The final reason for suicide, is that the bullying is endless and the
victim sees no end. Bullying makes victim them to lose self-esteem, which results in making
them feel helpless and hopeless. Unfortunately the most depressed victim will attempt suicide to
end their pain from the bullying. Many times physical aggression comes from their issues with
anger. A good example to deal with a bully is if you're in a situation where you are confronted
with a bully and you cant just walk away with class and use your best humor. I could possibly
can confuse your bully. Those that are being bullied should work out your anger in a positive
way, such as start exercise program or keep a journal about your anger. (Dealing With Bullying,
2010) These are some positive steps in dealing with bullying.
So what is the conclusion to all of this? We need to make a better effort to end bullying
once and for all. Bullying should never be a tolerated because it is emotionally damaging; and I
have friends that are former victims of bullying. I support all the effort to put an end to bullying.
I feel notable athletes and celebrities should step up and talk about their past issues with bullying
so that those that are bullied know that they are not alone.
