When she woke up that morning, Alice knew things were going to be different. It wasnt anything she
could put her finger on, exactly. She still lived in New Jersey with her mother and father. Her best
friend was still a sort of invisible rabbit from Italy (so he said) who sounded a lot like that actor
Robert De Niro and called himself Salvador De Rabbit. Alice called him Sal. Robin, who was her best
visible friend, still lived next door. The other thing that hadnt changed was that Alice wanted, more
than anything in the world, to be rich. She wanted big cars, diamonds, butlers with funny jackets,
maids to cater to her every wish, and exciting, fun adventures everything that money could buy. Not
that her life was so bad. But if she were rich, she thought, then shed really know what it meant to be
happy.
