Reflection:

Today, during
morning intervention
I completed the two
assessments
administered by Cara
and Heather. I also
had the students
complete the Garfield
assessment. The
students I am
working with can
read pretty well, but
struggle with writing,
spelling, and
comprehension of
what they are
reading.
I was absent this day
and did not
participate in
Morning Intervention.
Today, during
morning intervention
I work with my two
students on
completely an
assessment from the
previous day and
starting and
completing another
assessment (Letter
Name Knowledge).
Both students did
awesome on the
Letter Name
Knowledge
Assessment. This is a
good thing because
by second grade you
should know your

letter.

Two Students

Today, during
morning intervention
the students and I
read three books and
did them as an
interactive read
aloud. We focused
emphasizes the
expression
throughout the book
and understand the
emotions behind the
text through of
actions and
movements. The
students really
enjoyed this and I
could tell when I
questioned them that
they understood the
story and its
background. The
students really like
reading and talking
about stories, more
than working on
assessments.
Today, during early
morning intervention
the students and I
worked on read Clap
You Hands by Lorinda
Bryan Cauley. We
used the reading
strategy choral
reading and read the
book together. It was

evident that one

student is a stronger
reader than the other
because of the lack
of voice he had in our
choral reading. I think
he lacks confidence
in reading and feels
defeated when he
cant read a word. I
helped him a lot with
words throughout the
story, but he enjoys
reading and
especially reading
books about
dinosaurs. I think the
best thing to work on
with this student is
focus on finding
readings that he
enjoys and practicing
choral reading or
partner reading, so
he becomes
comfortable with
reading with a group
or partner and learns
the difficult words.
Today, I taught a
mini-lesson to my
morning intervention
group. We focused on
the long a sound
using the book Splat
the Cat. I read the
book to the students
and then they worked
on a long a word
mat. The students
would cover a picture
with a long a word.
For example: picture
of nap with the word
nap. The next part of
the lesson the

students complete a
fill-in-the-blank long
vowel sound, which
was used as an
assessment. The
students did great on
all aspects of the
mini-lesson and gave
great responses to
my questioning and
volunteered
responses about long
a song.
Today, we
participated in a
Storytime were we
presented the story
Bill and Pete by
Tomie DePaola.
During this time we
had puppets and
props to perform the
story for the morning
intervention
students. We treated
the students at the
end of story time
with candy canes
because of the
Christmas season.
The students really
enjoyed this time and
I felt like they gained
knowledge of the text
through our
performance. I think
the storytime reading
was the perfect way
to wrap up morning
intervention for the
fall semester. I would
recommend doing
storytime in the
future, but earlier in
the semester, since
the students enjoyed

it so much!
