Content of Lesson Plan

Title: Multiples & LCM
3rd Grade
Curriculum Areas Addressed : Mathematics
Curriculum Competency Objectives : North Carolina's Standard Course of Study defines the
appropriate content standards for each grade level and each high school course to provide a uniform set of learning
standards for every public school in North Carolina.
Based on a philosophy of teaching and learning that is consistent with current research, exemplary practices, and
national standards, the Standard Course of Study is designed to support North Carolina educators in providing the
most challenging education possible for the states students. The goal of these standards is to prepare all students to
become career and college ready.
With these standards in mind, local school leaders make decisions about the comprehensive curriculum that they
choose to deliver to students so that they can reach the content standards for every grade and subject. In addition,
local schools and districts may offer electives and coursework that is above and beyond the Standard Course of
Study's content standards. Classroom instruction is a partnership between the state, which sets content standards in
the Standard Course of Study, and local educators who determine which curriculum materials they will use to deliver
instruction to reach the standards.
The Standard Course of Study was completely overhauled in the past few years, and the new standards were
implemented for the first time in 2012-13. This initiative is part of a long-term trend to update and improve the
standards as expectations change and as new research and information become available. Currently, North
Carolinas Standard Course of Study consists of the Common Core State Standards in English language arts and
mathematics and the North Carolina Essential Standards in all other subjects, including social studies, the arts,
healthful living, career and technical education, and world languages.

Technology Competency Goals: During 2009, Instructional Technology staff members worked with LEA
representatives and other DPI staff to create Information and Technology Essential Standards for media and
technology. These standards were developed using Bloom's Revised Technology and replace the Computer Skills
and Information Literacy Standard Courses of Study. The Information and Technology Essential Standards are posted
on the ACRE section of the NC Public Schools web site.
These standards are critical building blocks for the education of our students. ITES represent the "must have"
information and technology skills and knowledge that each student must have in order to achieve success at the next
level. The standards are designed to be delivered by classroom teachers in all curricular areas and grade levels. As
the ITES are taught throughout all classrooms and across all curricular areas, it is essential that classroom teachers
collaborate with media coordinators and technology facilitators in delivering this instruction. Media coordinators and
technology facilitators should be active participants in grade level and/or curricular area planning groups as these
teams analyze student data, identify learning goals, plan and deliver instruction, and assess student progress.

Technology Performance Objectives: I intend on using a smartboard as

technology in this lesson. This will allow for presentation of the material as
well as a way for students to do activities to help promote learning.
Materials Needed: There will need to be enough computers or iPads for
every student to have access to the internet. Poster boards & markers..
Time: 60 minutes
Prerequisite content Knowledge and skills: Students will need to know how
to find basic patterns in numbers and their multiplications.
Internet Resource: Using brainpop to watch videos on how to find patterns
when looking for multiples of a certain number.
