Strand #2
Concept #2
PO 1. Describe how science is an ongoing process that changes in response to new information and discoveries.
Objective (Explicit):
SWBAT use the periodic table and apply the information gathered from the periodic table of the
elements to solve equations, and find appropriate chemicals and their possible pairs.
SWBAT locate elements on the table, know the difference between period and group, explain what
charge an element has, label the parts of an element, and create a model of an element.
Key vocabulary:
Proton, neutron, electron, shell, valence shell, period, group,
charge, isotope, (+,-), atoms.
Engage (Make content and learning relevant to real life and connect to student interest)
Explore
Everything in this room is made up of atoms, and everything in the world in fact. Today we are going to learn how to
use the periodic table of the elements to identify what things are made of and how they can react/work together to
change the world around us for the better.

Co-Teaching Strategy/Differentiation
Explain
We have 2 smart PTE boards on both sides of the classroom, so there can be about 15-20 students per
board, and both Mr. Nasser and I can guide students to what elements to pick, (harder or simpler based on
students comprehension of the subject). We are also going to display our own models to get the students
thinking about what their project can look like, and let them get creative.

Co-Teaching Strategy/Differentiation
Elaborate
We will do a split teaching method, where I will be doing the vocab portion of the notes, and Mr. Nasser
will be doing the drawing portion of the lesson. We will switch sides way through the lesson, 15 min.

Student Will:
Co-Teaching Strategy/Differentiation
Both teachers will walk around checking the progress at this point making sure no students go home
without a project.
Evaluate
Explain that I expect students to go home and begin to make these models, allowing them a whole 3 days to finish
them, while the rest of the lesson on PTE is being taught. Re-iterate how important this knowledge is to changing the
world to inspire some students to get a hold of this subject.
