Aid and Relief


Aid is material and logistic assistance to
people in need. It is usually short-term help
until the long-term help by government and
other institutions replaces it. Among the
people in need belong homeless,
refugees, victims of natural disasters, wars
and famines. The primary purpose of
humanitarian aid is to save lives, reduce
suffering and respect to human dignity.

Child Rights
Children's rights are the human rights of
children with particular attention to the
rights of special protection and care
afforded to minors. The Convention on the
Rights of the Child (1989) (CRC) defines a
child as any human person who has not
reached the age of eighteen years.

Development
The process of economic and social
transformation that is based on complex cultural
and environmental factors and their interactions.
It is :

Education
Education is the process of facilitating
learning. Knowledge, skills, values,
beliefs, and habits of a group of people
are transferred to other people, through
storytelling, discussion, teaching, training,
or research. Education frequently takes
place under the guidance of educators,
but learners may also educate themselves
in a process called autodidactic learning.

Equality
Equality is ensuring individuals or groups
of individuals are treated fairly and equally
and no less favorably, specific to their
needs, including areas of race, gender,
disability, religion or belief, sexual
orientation and age. Promoting equality
should remove discrimination in all of the
aforementioned areas.

Health and Sanitation


Sanitation is the hygienic means of
promoting health through prevention of
human contact with the hazards of wastes
as well as the treatment and proper
disposal of sewage or wastewater.
Hazards can be either physical,
microbiological, biological or chemical
agents of disease.

Human Rights
Human rights are moral principles
or norms that describe certain
standards of human behavior, and
are regularly protected as legal rights
in municipal and international law.

Peace, Conflict and Security


Peace and conflict studies is a social science
field that identifies and analyses violent and
nonviolent behaviours as well as the structural
mechanisms attending conflicts (including social
conflicts) with a view towards understanding
those processes which lead to a more desirable
human condition. A variation on this, peace
studies (irenology), is an interdisciplinary effort
aiming at the prevention, de-escalation, and
solution of conflicts by peaceful means, thereby
seeking "victory" for all parties involved in the
conflict.

The focus of governments and


humanitarian NGOs has progressively
shifted towards conflict prevention and
building sustainable peace.

Environment
The biophysical environment is
the biotic and abiotic surrounding of
an organism or population, and
consequently includes the factors
that have an influence in their
survival, development and evolution.
