Philosophy of Education:

Philosophy of Education

Learning needs many different factors to occur, it starts with the classroom
environment that the students will be in. When students are learning they need
a safe and comfortable environment to create a learning environment. Students
need to feel like they have a place in the classroom and are safe there. Schools
need to provide this safe environment in each classroom. My future classroom is
based on a safe and learning environment. I can accomplish this type of
environment with my classroom management strategies and teaching style.
Philosophy of education is creating a safe learning environment for each student
with classroom management and structured teaching.
A safe environment is a very important factor to have in classroom because
without a safe environment, no student will learn. My future classroom will
incorporate safety so ensure the best learning environment. If students are so
worried about their safety when they are at school, they will never be able to
concentrate and learn. I can create this safe environment by holding students
accountable for their actions. When student create a negative and unsafe
environment they will be removed to the classroom and will not be able to return
into the classroom until they explain why and what they will do in the future to
make better choices. Students need to have a safe place to go and that will be my
classroom. Students need to know that no matter what they have happening in their
life they can come to a safe and learning environment.
My classroom management style is strict and understanding with the
students in my classroom. I hold all my students accountable for their actions and
have the same expectations for each student. Students will know what the
consequences will be with each level of action. When a student does not follow the
rules they will have a first level consequences that will be the same for every
student. This allows students to know what to expect when they choose to break a
rule. This is important to have in a classroom because it creates stability and a safe
environment. When students know what will happen in advance they are held
accountable.

The way that I teach is a very structured method, the students will know what
is to be expected each day. The schedule is posted everyday so the students are
able to see it. Teaching students is clear so each student knows what is expected
of them. When teaching it is important to be clear in instruction and allow
student to be involved so they understand what they need to be doing. Involving
students in the classroom instruction is important because that way they can
feel they have a part of the classroom and can be held accountable. Allowing
students to be involved and allowing them to make mistakes will create a
positive safe environment in the classroom.
Philosophy of education is creating a safe learning environment for
each student with classroom management and structured teaching. My
classroom will be safe because each student will be held accountable for their
actions and know what their consequences would be if a rule was broken.
Students will be involved in the classroom so they will know what to expect
and will feel safe enough to make mistakes and learn. Having all these
elements is important to help student learn and feel safe so they can learn.

Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,
Welcome to the class, my name is Miss. Maupin and I will be your
childs teacher for the year. There are a few things that I would like to address
in this letter so everyone is on the same page to start the school year. My
classroom is set up for success for each student, with that I have high
expectations for each child. I hold students accountable and encourage them
to be independent while still being there to help them along the way. I
encourage students to be accountable for homework and themselves. I
believe in allowing the student to do things on their own, so they can become
more independent. I am working toward a goal for Kindergarten students, to
become self-sufficient by the end of the year, so they can accomplish their
own goals on their own. I want each student to be able to accomplish
everyday tasks and more. I also use this management style with curriculum; I
am a guide to the students education. I aid and teach the information that
they have to know, curriculum and social skills; I also want the students to be
accountable for their education as well. The students need to put in their own
work and time to be successful and in control of their own education.
I have a reward system of tickets and clip up to continue encouraging
them. Clip chart has colors and if they are being rewarded they will move
their clip up to blue or purple. If they are not behaving they will clip down into
the yellow and red. Students who show positive behavior and hard work will
be rewarded with this system. The discipline in the classroom starts with a

warning, then a clip down on the chart. Once a child has clipped down into
the red colored chart they will receive a call home. If the behavior continues,
the student will be sent out of the classroom. This procedure will happen with
every student.
Our classroom schedule will stay consistent as much as we can. We will
start out with morning work and picking lunches. We will then move into
language arts and story time. The next thing on our schedule will be writers
notebooks and electives (art, PE, gym). Lunch will be after and then recess.
When the students return from recess we will move into math and
science/social studies. When the students complete their work they will have
time for purposeful play. They will have breaks in between subject but at the
end of the day they will have time allotted for activities. The las thing we will
do for the day is pack up and get ready to head home. We will try and stay
with this schedule every day, but we also will need to be flexible some days.
I look forward to having your child in my classroom and welcome
parents into the classroom anytime. I encourage parents to be involved as
much as they can with their childs schooling. If you have any questions or
concerns, it is best emailed. I am excited for a new year with great students.
Theory of Practice
For the kindergarten classroom at East Elementary, the culture is important
to remember when teaching. Grandville is known for white and middle to upper
class, but at east that is not the case. East is the lower income school of Grandville,
with the most diversity of the district. The reason this is important is some students
have problems because of their home lives. When it comes to the reasoning for
students behavior, you need to look more into the problem. Ask why they are doing
that, do not just assume they are being bad. For understanding the childs motives,
behaviors, and development the culture of the surrounding area and school is a
large impact on that. For my classroom I will look beyond the behavior and look
more into the underlying problem. I would use this management style for all ages
and grade levels because it is important to listen to the students and what is going
on in their lives.
For punishment I would use a humanistic approach that allows the students
to see what their actions can do or cause. Holding students accountable for their
actions because they have a choice in what they do. I would use this because the
students can reflect on what happened and get to the root of a problem. This goes
along with the culture of the classroom because there is something more than the
surface problem. For reinforcement I would use positive reinforcement, like a ticket
system that encourages positive behaviors. I would use this one for kindergarten
because they strive to make the teacher happy and to be loved by the teacher.
Showing and enforcing what I want to see from the students by giving them tickets

will give them an idea of what I want and not what I do not want in behaviors.
Kindergarteners work very hard to make a teacher happy and to be recognized so
enforcing positive will create a positive classroom and its behavior.
Students in kindergarten, they learn through example. The students need to
learn by living life, they need to have experiences to have understanding. This is
why I would look at the underlying problem, maybe someone taught them the
behavior or maybe they had to do things that may not be right but are needed. By
allowing students to learn by actions and encourage positive behavior, they will
figure out how things go together and what is expected out of them. By allowing
students to tell you why they did the action they did, it allows the teacher to
understand more about the students lives and create safe relationship.
Understanding a childs actions is key to a students learning and education for their
schooling career.
