1. A reservoir of Glycerin has a mass of 1200 kg and a volume of 0.952 m3. Determine
(i)

the glycerin's weight (W),

(ii)

mass density (),

(iii)

specific weight ( ),

(iv)

specific gravity (s.g)

2. A body requires a force of 100 N to accelerate it at a rate of 0.2 m/s2. Determine the mass of
the body in kilogram and in slug.
3. The weight of a body is 100 lb. Calculate:
(i)

its weight in Newton,

(ii)

its mass in kilograms,

(iii)

the rate of acceleration [in both feet per second squared (ft/s2) and meters per
second squared (m/s2)] if a net force of 50 lb is applied to the body.

4. A mercury barometer reads 742 mm. If the mercury relative density is 13.55. Determine the
atmospheric pressure in kilopascal (kPa).
5. The specific gravity of a fluid is 0.85 and its dynamic viscosity =0.0018 N.s/m2. Calculate:
(i) The specific weight of the fluid in N/m3
(ii) The fluid density in kg/ m3
(iii) The kinematic viscosity in m2/s
6. In a fluid the velocity measured at a distance of 75 mm from the boundary is 1.125 m/s. The
fluid dynamic viscosity is 0.048 N.s/m2.
Assuming a linear velocity distribution, Calculate:
(i)

(ii)

the shear stress at the boundary
