PDA Freedom Center Campaign
HED 230 A Introduction to Health Education
Gay pride happened about a week or two ago and the Freedom center hosted a campaign
in our Student Union to raise awareness on the gay community and the struggles they deal with
that affects their emotional, physical, as well as religious health because of their sexual
preference. I am for the gay community and believe everyone deserves equal opportunity no
matter what their sexual orientation is. I like the statement they use to represent their campaign
which states, we are each entitled to our own beliefs, however, we must not use holy text of any
kind to deny equal protection under the law. #Beliefs should not be weapons. One thing I didnt
agree with during their event is that they play gospel music but the next song that they played
was music that we listen to in the club. I feel that was very distasteful and disrespectful to do
because while they are fighting for their own rights and beliefs they were mocking that of
another and I believe they contradicted their purpose in a way. In order for people to take you
serious you have to show respect to everyone and be mindful of your audience and how you
might make people feel. All in all the event was very informative and for a good cause .
