Dear: Mrs. Smith

Companies that provide childcare for their employees takes huge stress of
of parents struggling to find a convenient and good quality childcare centers.
There are pros and cons to a business running childcare services.
This report explains the work and pros and cons to the workplace providing
childcare for employees. Also, why it is a good idea to provide this benefit.
For example, one pro to the workplace providing childcare is that the
employee attendance rate could increase. A con would be having to worry
about workday interruptions due to behavior problems.
Proper childcare is critical for the development of young children, so
companies that provide childcare services should be qualified and approved.

Sincerely,

Rydell Bligen

Introduction
The debate on whether companies should provide childcare for their
employees raises many opinions on the topic. Companies would make it
convenient and beneficial for both them and their employees if this benefit
was provided.

Project Description
Companies providing childcare for employees will end the struggles of
parents having to search for a convenient and quality center. An onsite
daycare center will show parents that the company cares about their
personal lifes. Parents will have the security because they will know where
their child is at all times and they can check up on the child throughout the
day. By keeping the employees in mind will begin to increase workers
productivity.

Scope of Study
The purpose of this report is to explain why companies should provide
childcare for their employees, also the pros and cons that go along with it.
Ways how I got my information were:
Searches on rules and regulations to running a childcare center
Knowledge from actually being in the teacher field
Facility visits

Discussion Section
Companies that ofer childcare service as a benefit that will relieve
parents who are struggling to find quality and convenient childcare
facility. Single parents will really take advantage of this benefit because
they both will be in the same facility which will decrease separation
anxiety. Even though this would be a huge benefit to employees and the
business there are pros and cons to this transition. If parents cannot find a
quality center, then it can cause problems at work which could result in
them losing their job. Employees are more than just worker they do have
lives, providing childcare will motivate them as employees because they
feel appreciated.
Pros
Childcare availability would be convenient to employees because
parents wouldnt have to search high and low for quality service. Parents can
just bring their child to work and easily make the transition to the childcare
department. Also the employers productivity will be increased because they
wont have to worry about where their child is and how they are being cared
for. Employees will feel appreciated and valued because they know the
company is helping them the best way possible. Childcare availability gives
parents flexibility and the joy of maintaining family and work. If the parents
cant find care that means they wont be able to come into work. Also the onsite childcare program will be low cost compared to an independent center.
Ofering childcare as a benefit make their employees feel valued and lets
them know you support them.
Cons
Even though an on-site childcare facility would be beneficial, there are
cons that go along with it. In order to have a certified childcare center the
company will have to follow multiple rules and regulations. They will have to
hire qualified teachers as well as qualified janitor staf. Everyday childcare
facility should have a kitchen as well as full bathrooms (Matthew, Geiger). The
entire process is a long and time consuming. Having parents and children in
the same location will result in workday interruptions. Parents may leave
their station just to go down and check on their child which will slow down
the productivity. Also a child may be having a behavior problem and the
teacher may need the parent, so they will come and interrupt them from
doing important work. Feuds and disagreements may arise between teachers
and parents that could cause an unhealthy environment. On top of this the
cost and liability issues would be the biggest con in having an on-site
childcare because it will be very expensive.
Benefits for the company
Companies who provide childcare not only benefits their employees but also
the entire business. Three main ways are:

Bligen 6

Possible savings in money

Firms ofering childcare services saves twice as much money as an
independent center. In 2005 two companies reported that this transition was
better and beneficial.
Improved employee morale and increased productivity
According to the National Conference of State legislatures employees
productivity can increase because the convenience of the center.
Incentive for recruitment
During a study conducted by a college graduate 42% of people saying
childcare availability is worth a job change. The childcare services interest
single parents and convenient parents.

The importance of childcare

Childcare is important because the early years in life are when the
childs brain is venerable to new information. Ages 0-5 is where 90% of the
brain growth occurs during this period. Children who receive quality childcare
will enter school with better math, language and social skills (Child Care).
Childcare is also important for the parent because without it the parent
wouldnt be able to work. In 2013, President Barack Obama made a historic
pledge to provide universal high-quality pre-k education to our nations
children (blog capital). The positive long-term education will impact the
children throughout their entire lives. The two major purposes for childcare
are education and care.
