Air Pollution
Jocelyn Navarrete

Brown, J. (2013, May 12). What is Air Pollution? Retrieved October 17, 2015
Summary: Air pollution occurs when gases, dust particles, fumes or odor are introduced
into the atmosphere in a way that makes it harmful to humans, animals and the
environment. This is because the air becomes contaminated. Air pollution increases
health risks for millions of Americans every day. Managing air pollution causes, and
defending successful safeguards like the Clean Air Act, is critical to the human,
economic, and environmental health of our communities.
Use: This website will provide useful information that will support some of my
arguments. In addition, it includes facts about air pollution that make the information
credible and logical.

Essick, K. (2011, November 19). Air Pollution. Retrieved October 17, 2015.
Summary: Encourage government-funded research projects to develop clean electric
transportation methods to help reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Apply the carbon credit
system to other known atmospheric pollutants such as sulfur oxide, nitrogen oxide,
carbon monoxide, methane, and aerosols and annually reduce the total amount of
pollutants permitted. These standards must be adhered to specifically and punishments
should be severe to ensure polluters meet quotas.
Use: This website will help me investigate on the different solutions being attempted to
help control air pollution. I will also determine if these methods resulted effective.

Epstein, P. (2014, February 5). Air Pollution Facts, Air Pollution Effects, Air Pollution
Solutions, Air Pollution Causes - National Geographic. Retrieved October 17, 2015
Summary: Smog hanging over cities is the most familiar and obvious form of air
pollution. But there are different kinds of pollution some visible, some invisible that
contribute to global warming. Generally any substance that people introduce into the
atmosphere that has damaging effects on living things and the environment is considered
air pollution.
Use: This website will give me information of the different forms of air pollution.
Information on substances that harm the atmosphere is given in this website as well.

Farley, A. (2014, August 4). How Does Pollution Affect Humans? Retrieved October 17,
2015
Summary: Most of the pollution is caused by humans and we will suffer the
consequences if we dont stop. We release a variety of chemicals into the atmosphere
when we burn the fossil fuels we use every day. We breathe air to live and what we
breathe has a direct impact on our health. Breathing polluted air puts you at a higher risk
for asthma and other respiratory diseases. Air pollutants are mostly carcinogens and
living in a polluted area can put people at risk of Cancer.
Use: This website includes various facts about the different negative effects air pollution
may have on the health of humans. It has accurate information that is essential for my
research.

Morrow, J. (2009, November 10). Pollution articles. Retrieved October 17, 2015.
Summary: Air pollution presents big environmental threat in many parts of the world. Air
pollution includes variety of different harmful chemicals and gases released from our
vehicles and our industrial facilities that make our air dirty. Air pollution has extremely

negative effect on our environment, and the most obvious negative effect is the negative
effect it has on our health. According to World Health Organization 2.4 million people die
each year from causes directly attributable to air pollution, mostly from different
respiratory diseases, but it can also lead to heart problems (heart strokes).
Use: This article has very useful information on air pollution giving a clear explanation of
what air pollution really is. It includes statistics and facts about air pollution and its
effects.

NYU Langone Medical Center. (2015, September 15). Link between air pollution,
increased deaths and increased deaths from heart disease affirmed. Science Daily.
Retrieved October 17, 2015
Summary: In what is believed to be the largest, most detailed study of its kind in the
United States, scientists have confirmed that tiny chemical particles in the air we breathe
are linked to an overall increase in risk of early death. Fine particles can contribute to the
development of potentially fatal heart and lung diseases because they slip past the body's
defenses and can be absorbed deep into the lungs and bloodstream. They are not sneezed
or coughed out the way larger natural particles, like airborne soil and sand, are removed
from the body's airways.
Use: This article will provide me with information on the different diseases that air
pollution may cause. I could focus on fatal heart and lung diseases.

Whistler, P. (2014, July 13). Smart electric cars to measure air pollution. The Economic
Times. Retrieved October 17, 2015.

Summary: British scientists are using smart electric vehicles fitted with specialized air
monitoring sensors to measure the city pollution levels. The University of Leicester
researchers have designed and installed special sensors into electric vehicles (EVs) that
can measure pollutant concentrations around the city. The information from these sensors
will provide insight into the quality of the air people inhale in polluted urban areas,
researchers said.
Use: This newspaper article will help me in determining different methods being tested in
other parts of the world against air pollution that have resulted effective. It would be a
way to bring ideas into the community in order for air pollution prevention.
