TEACHING THE LESSON

Introducing the Lesson:
1. Warm up: Show students a clock and have them tell you what they
know about it. What do they use it for? Why is it important? We will jot
down answers on the white board of student responses.

C. Wood ISTC 301/501

2.Learning Objective(s): These will be listed on a PowerPoint slide, as

we read them aloud.

Our learning Objective Is:

-Students will be able to read and write times using digital and analog
clocks to the minute and hour.

To Meet This Objective:

-Students will listen to a brief lecture given by teachers S and J about the
general information about a clock.
-Students will participate in an activity using plastic eggs to match clock
times to the correct time.
-Students will engage in an activity on the computer to see if they can
demonstrate their knowledge of hours and minutes.

Motivator:
-Students will work together to complete the egg assessment.
-Students will be able to communicate thoughts about telling time.

Plans for DifferentiationVisualA PowerPoint and a hand out of class keynotes for the lesson will be given
to students.

C. Wood ISTC 301/501

AuditoryRead out loud from the slides and engage in a class discussion will be
provided.

KinestheticHave a hands on activity to let students be able to feel and play with
objects.

Procedures for teaching the Content

Step 1.
Teacher S will introduce herself and Teacher J and greet the class.
Teacher S will pull up PowerPoint and start to lead class warm up.
Teacher J will then read through the PowerPoint class notes on how to
tell time.
Teacher S will then explain to the class about the class activity. This
will give students an opportunity to practice what they know about
telling time. The class activity will be playing a game on
http://www.abcya.com/telling_time.htm
During the website activity, Teachers J and S will go around asking
students if they need help at all. Students can also communicate
other students if they need assistance.
Teacher S will then go through the class hand out and instruct the
students to review when they go home. Teacher S will go over the
handout and explain it.
Teacher S will explain how to do the Formative Assessment (egg
activity).
During the assessment, teachers will walk around and see students

progress and help if needed.

Summary and Lesson Closure describe how you plan to end the
lesson and prepare students for further learning. (example: discuss what
comes next in the unit or the next step in learning). This step is
important because it allows you to sum up the lesson and preview the
next lesson.
Teachers J will go over class handouts and explain that this is material
needed to know before coming to class tomorrow. Teacher J will
describe the next unit we will be working on is telling time looking at
minutes and seconds not just hours and half hours. The information
learned in class today will be a vital component to help the students
continue learning how to tell time.

Formative Assessment
-Plastic Egg Activity
After the lesson on how to tell time looking at hours and half hours, the
students will be able to engage in an activity to test their knowledge on
what they just learned.
1. Teacher J will split the class up into two groups. One half will receive
12 eggs and the other class will receive 12 eggs. As this is
happening, Teacher S will be explaining to the children the directions
to this activity.
2. One side of the egg will be the time (example: 6:00 pm) and the
other half will show the actual clock with the minute hand and the
hour hand. The top and bottom of the eggs will be scrambled up on
the desk. The task is for students to help each other match the top
half of the egg to the bottom half of the egg.
3. After the students are done, teachers will walk around to assist
students. Teachers will give feedback on the activity and make
corrections where needed.
4. There will then be a discussion lead by Teacher S if the activity was

easy or hard.

Extension of learning1. For homework, students will visit the website practiced in class and
review the handouts from class. Teacher S will explain to students at
the end of the class that tomorrow we will be having a short review
as well as working on determining how they use time in their
everyday life.
