Reflection of My English Class
Entering for my first English class, I was nervous and ready to stay all night reading and
writing summarys in what we read. The expectation in this class before the semester began, I
thought we would be writing and reading a lot, for example we would have an essay due every
week. Also, for my English class in college I expected that we would read many books in one
semester.
I like about writing is that all the activities in class we did it help me clear my thought in
want we need to write for each progression. Also, I like that the prroffesor broke it down into
three steps in prospectus, draft, and final. The writing I did not like was the first essay because I
did not have a clear mind what to write because the articles to me look familiar. Reflecting back,
I learned many concepts in class and how important in the essay. At first I did not know what the
different between ethos, pathos, and logos but in SI clas we reviewd it often, so I know the
difference. Also I learned the sandwich sentence; where you introduce the topic what you are
going to write, then bring in evidence like a quote and finally arguments toward the topic. Also
something, which I learned that writing an essay you need to add a counterargument in order to
not make your essay bias.
I think I had many challenges in my essays because in high school I never tried and I
been told I could not write. So that made me think that I was not good enough writer. So entering
in my very first college class, I was afraid of having people reading my essay and having fedback

from my peers. I overcame this challenge by telling myself it is okay that he or she review my
essay because my peer reviewing my essay he or she will give me ideas to change or add to my
essay. I believe I do not have any strength as a write because I believe theres room for
improvement because looking back in my essay their things I need to fix. Looking back in the
rubric of my essay I improved in formatting in the essay is grammar and style. The areas I am
going to improve is editing my paper more for looking for grammar issues and organization of
my paper that I can write about one topic instead of switching to another issue that is not reveling
to the topic. Not only in my essay I need to improve on is asking or emailing any questions to my
professor like if I am confused or more clear understanding of something. One aspect that made
me proud was having my essay improve was that from my first to my second essay. Some skills
or knowledge I will apply for my future classes is to ask many questions and have people to give
me feedback in order to strength my essay.
For a new student to succeed in their writing class is for them not to what to the last
minute to do your essay, go to class, and recommend is ask many questions. I feel if you do your
essay in the night before due you will not have time to fix your mistakes and you will feel that
you did not do your best. Also, I feel attending class you will miss activities and learn examples
that you might have to include in your essay. I feel the most important thing is to ask questions
because it will make you have a clear mind in what you need to write. Remember you are not the
only person who may have the same question, it is okay to ask in front of the class or wait until
class is over to ask a question to the professor. So future student I believe these ideas will make
you a stronger and better writer.
