ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
-Competency 1: To act as a professional inheritor, critic, and interpreter of knowledge or culture when
teaching students,
-Competency 2: To communicate clearly in the language of instruction, both orally and in writing, using
correct grammar, in various contexts related to teaching.
-Competency 4: To pilot teaching/learning situations that are appropriate to the students concerned and the
subject content with a view to developing the competencies targeted in the programs of study
-Competency 8: To integrate information & communication technologies (ICT) in the preparation and
delivery of teaching/learning activities and for instructional management & professional development.
-Competency 9: To cooperate with school staff, parents, partners in the community and students in pursuing
the educational objectives of the school.
-Competency 11: To engage in professional development individually and with others.
-Competency 12: To demonstrate ethical and responsible professional behaviour in the performance of his
or her duties.
I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
-Competency 3: To develop teaching/learning situations that are appropriate to the students concerned and
the subject content with a view of developing the competencies targeted in the programs of study.
-Competency 6: To plan, organize and supervise a class in such a way as to promote students learning and
social development.
-Competency 10: To cooperate with members of the teaching team in carrying out tasks involving the
development and evaluation of the competencies targeted in the programs of study
-Competency 11: To engage in professional development individually and with others.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

Although I believe that I did a really good job developing teaching/learning situations during FE3, I believe
that there is still plenty of room for improvement in terms of coming up with even more hands-on projects
and experiential ways for the students to discover and learn the concepts. This always hard to do with a
ministry exam looming, but it is important to prepare students for so much more than just an exam.

Being placed in an all-boys school for FE3 definitely pushed me to develop strong classroom management
skills. That being said I am still rather inexperienced in dealing with misbehaving students. I only had one
major instance of misbehavior during FE3 and although I believed that ultimately I handled the situation
well given my experience level, I wish to continue developing this competency in FE4. Steps which I will
take during FE4 to improve this competency are to observe how other teachers structure and run their
classes and involve students more in process of setting classroom standards.

I really worked on cooperating with members of the teaching team during FE3 but I feel as though I need to
coordinate more with other teachers regarding steps being taken to support specific students. By
synchronizing our approach we may better meet the individual needs of the students.

Professional development (competency 11) will continue to be advanced individually by reviewing my

journal notes (taken during FE 1 & PS 1, FE 2 & PS 2, and FE3 & PS 3). I will also continue to conduct
personal research and literature reviews to stay up-to-date with the latest advances within the education
profession. McGill also offers a multitude of professional development seminars and workshops which I
will make greater efforts to attend. I will also continue to discuss educational situations and observations
with my university peers as we advance through our undergraduate careers together. Ultimately professional
development is never complete and should continue throughout ones career.
