DOK: Level One Identify and

Objective: Using their senses to investigate objects the students will

be able to verbally state one descriptive word for five objects with
eighty percent accuracy.
Materials Needed:
Six brown bags, potatos, pencils
Key Vocabulary:
Discover- Find out, find new, learn
Investigate- The process to discovery
Assessment Procedure: The students will be taught the five senses
and their associated body parts. The teacher will use describing words
to describe the object. The teacher will use the responses as a
formative assessment to gauge understanding. At the end of the
activity if seventy percent of the students did not meet the objective of
the lesson, the teacher will review the material.

Expectations: The teacher will state the expectations by stating the

objective, I am going to teach you about the five sense. You will use
you senses to investigate objects and verbally state one descriptive
word to tell me about the object.

Anticipatory Set/Modeling: The teacher will hold up a bag and use

the five senses to describe what is in the. In the bag is a pencil. Using
the sense of smell it smells like wood, write wood on the board. Using
the sense of touch say, It feels long, thin, with one pointy end and one
soft end. Write, long, thin, pointy, soft on the board. Tell the students
it doesnt make sounds and its not an object youd want to taste. Ask
the students to guess what it is then use the sense of sight and pull
out the pencil.
Instructional Activities:
After the modeling taught the five senses and their associated body
parts. The students will be moved to table groups. Before transitioning
to groups the teacher will explain that each group will use their
assigned senses to determine what is in the bag.
Group Organization: In table groups the children will be given one
object in an enclosed bag. The students will use their senses to
investigate the objects and verbally state one descriptive word for
each of the five objects. The students will discuss the objects and ways
to describe it. The objects will rotate tables after the teacher has come
around and asked the students the following questions:
1) What word would you use to describe this object?
2) What sense did you use to investigate this object?
Individual Accountability/ Independent Practice and
Application:
Each student will provide input to their group about what they think is
in the bag and why. The teacher will evaluate students learning
informally as they respond to the questions asked and the activity.
Transition and Closure:
Bring the students back to the floor and write some of the words you
heard the students using on the board. Reflect with the class about the
use of the words.

Reflection:
What went well- I was able to align the lesson plan and the Common
Core State Standards.
I felt confident in my classroom management and was glad to see that
it was mentioned in the positive observation notes.
I had all my materials prepared and was well prepared to teach.
What I can improve on- I had written the lesson plan on the wrong
format. It would be more beneficial to me to review the lesson plan
templates and plan the lessons based on the lesson plan frameworks I
am required to teach. Following the template I would have been able to
meet those rubric objectives, which I missed. I didnt think to include
the transition back to the floor in my lesson plan. I need to include
transitions as part of my lesson plan. Possibly reviewing and rehearsing
the lesson before hand might help me feel more confident in it.
