Monthly Spotlight:
How does nutrition affect academic performance?
In our next 5 upcoming newsletters, there will be a special focus on the
topic of nutrition and its affects on academic performance. Each newsletter
will focus on a more specific aspect of the topic. This month, we will look
at what nutrition is and why it is important.
Children need to have proper nutrition because their bodies and brains are
continuously growing all the way through high school. It is essential for
students to get the necessary nutrients such as protein, vitamins,
minerals, and certain fats. These nutrients can be found in foods such as
fruits, lean meats, and vegetables. This will give them energy and keep
them focused on their academics.

Monthly Spotlight:
How does nutrition affect academic
performance?
Nutrition can affect many aspects of a
childs academic performance. Their
bodies and brains are continuously
growing all the way through high
school and it is essential that they
have good nutrition. If they do no
have the proper nutrition they need,
they are more likely to have lower
grades on assignments, slower memory
recall, attention problems, and
behavioral issues.

Monthly Spotlight:
How does nutrition affect academic
performance?
Breakfast is the most important meal
of the day. It can affect how students
feel and act throughout the rest of
their day. A proper breakfast consists
of getting the key minerals, vitamins,
and proteins that children need. It
helps them stay focused on their
academics and keeps their energy up as
they will not be distracted by a
hungry tummy.

How does nutrition affect academic
performance?
It is important to consider not only the
food children eat, but what they drink
as well. Soda is the top source of
added sugar in childrens diets. It
contains caffeine and herbal stimulants,
which can be detrimental to a childs
health. Studies have been done that show
drinking soda at least once a day has
increased the chance of receiving lower
grades.
