Reflection
I expected this class to be easier than what I experienced. I knew
that I will learn a lot throughout my experience in that class this
semester. I expected to improve my writing skills in essays and
read more. I expected to learn how to express myself in a better
way and more descriptive and in the right way.
I like writing a lot, I used to only like writing in my native language
because I was able to express myself in a better way and clearer.
When I try writing English I get a little bit stuck in describing
myself and what I actually mean. So I always preferred writing in
my own language. I didnt always make my essays as credible by
using citations and evidence.
I learned a lot about the rhetorical appeals. I learned how to add
ethos, pathos and logos into my essay to make my essay better,

readable and convincing. For ethos is the credibility: I learned that

I have to add quotes. I also have to put the page number. At the
end of my essay I would have to add citation at the end. So It
would be credible and I have the proof that what I am saying is
right. Another thing I learned to add is logos which is a proof that
what I am talking about is logical in addition I have to add pathos
which is the emotional part; which make the reader keep reading
my article and empathies with what I am writing. I also learned
about gender construction which is relating whatever I am writing
about to gender and gender construction. I also learned to a
counterargument to my topic to show both sides of the topic I am
writing about and my point of view.
One of the view challenges I faced were being unable to be as
descriptive and as specific in a lot of my points. The way I tried to
fix this, is going over my essays several times and editing it. I also
went to the LRC (the learning resource center) where there was
tutors who helped me and guided me. The tutors also helped me
fix and show my thesis statement in the article or essays I wrote
about.

My strength as a writer is finding proof and organizing my

thoughts into the paper. I improved in being more descriptive. I
also improved in finding sources and things to relate to in my
writing. I am proud that I learned a lot of things in this semester. I
will definitely use the things I learned this semester to help me in
my writing in the following semesters. I will keep proofreading my
essays and fixing them. I will seek help. I will use the LRC (the
learning resource center). As I will also do the citation. I also know
where to find good credible source that I can use in my essays
and writing. I also know that I can find these sources in the Oviatt
library website. If I would give an advice to one of the new
students, it would be to also try their best, be a hard worker. I
would tell them to always take valuable notes since they will need
to use these notes in their essays.
