Use a model to illustrate the role of cellular division (mitosis) and differentiation in producing
and maintaining complex organisms.
HS-LS 1-4
Big Ideas:
What is the difference between Mitosis & Meiosis.
Why cell Division allows the formation of complex organisms.
Reason as to why organisms can grow from gametes .
Unit Summary:
Engage students in collaborative exercises designed to stimulate thinking and engage various students to formulate a group
answer as well as individual understanding. Students should be able to draw on collective knowledge to solve given questions
presented in class. The difference between Mitosis & Meiosis should be adequately described by students along with the process
and steps taken to achieve cellular division. The ability of two cells or one forming multiple should be understood. Based on this
information, students should be able to understand and explain how cancer affects the human body.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level:
Quick Write is administered to gain an
understanding of prior knowledge and to
provide students with a taste of the material.
Grading will be based on completion. No letter
grade will be given.
