Day One:
1. Show the students the School House Rock Video.
2. Separate the students into groups of 5 and give each group an
ethnic group to research.
3. Using the KWL chart that is written on the board, you will ask the
students what they already know about how the different ethnic
groups influenced America. Then ask them what they would like to
know about the same topic. Leave the L section blank for the end of
the lesson.
4. Give the groups their presentation assignment and rubrics. The
students will be allowed to meet outside of school to work on their
presentations.
5. Take the students to the computer lab, so they will be able to work
on their specific groups website and research information for their
project.

Procedure:
Day Two:
6. Play All Around the World in One Minute.
7. Show students the virtual field trip to South African restaurants.
Day Three:
8. Have students present their presentations.
9. The World in America quiz using the Plickers app.
10. Once each student finishes their assessment, ask the students
what they have learned from the lesson. Let them come up to the
whiteboard and fill it out in the KWL chart, under L.

Guided Practice:

All Around The World in One Minute. Prepare this game before
the students come into class. Place 1 sign with each ethnic group in a
different corner of the classroom. The teacher will pull up a picture
of an item, food, sport or tradition on the smart-board. The students
will have one minute to choose and stand under the sign with the
ethnic group they believe is correct. Play music for the minute while
the students make their decision and change spots. The teacher will
show the answer, then give the right group candy or sweets.

Independent
Practice and
Assessment:

The World in America Plickers quiz: Set up the app on your phone
before class begins. Give each student 4 of the scanner cards. Once
each student has them, explain how each card represents one of the
answers and that they must raise the card that they believe is the
correct answer. They are not allowed to help each other. Once you
have explained this, pull up the first question and read it allowed.
Give the students one minute to raise up the card. Then, use your
phone to scan the cards, which will read you the answers. Repeat this
for the next 9 questions. When the test is over, collect the cards from
each student and prepare them for the KWL chart.
Disability: All Around the World in One Minute works with
ADHD
Gifted: Students who have natural talent will help other students
within the ethnic groups.

ESOL: Students will be paired with gifted students individually and

be helped for the research process on ethnic groups so it can make it
Accommodations/
easy for them to learn.
Modifications:
Teacher Tech: Teachers can make teaching simple by using the
interactive computers or virtual world tours for researching
important ethnic group information.
Student Tech: Students participating in certain types of groups with
virtual ways of learning from the lesson through the smart board and
computer.
