istopromoteeducationalexcellenceinschoolsbyfacilitatingresourcesharing,innovationand
communication.
TheInternetisanelectronichighwayconnectingthousandsofcomputersallovertheworldandmillionsof
individualsubscribers.
Withaccesstocomputersandpeopleallovertheworldalsocomestheavailabilityofmaterialthatmaynot
beconsideredtobeofeducationalvalueinthecontextoftheschoolsetting.Therefore,theLowerCape
MayRegionalBoardofEducationhasauthorizedtheSuperintendenttoinstituteprecautionsthatwould
restrictaccesstocontroversialmaterials.
Thesmoothoperationofthenetworkreliesupontheproperconductoftheenduserswhomustadhereto
strictguidelines.Theseguidelinesareprovidedheresothatstaffandstudentsareawareofthe
responsibilitiestheyareabouttoacquire.Ingeneralthisrequiresefficient,ethicalandlegalutilizationof
thenetworkresources.Ifanyviolationoftheestablishedregulationsoccurs,accessprivilegesmaybe
revoked,schooldisciplinaryactionand/orappropriatelegalactionmaybetaken.

AcceptableUseThepurposeoftheInternet,istosupportresearchandeducationinandamong
academicinstitutionsintheU.S.byprovidingaccesstouniqueresourcesandtheopportunityfor
collaborativework.TheuseofanInternetaccountmustbeinsupportofeducationandresearch
andconsistentwiththeeducationalobjectivesoftheLowerCapeMayRegionalSchoolDistrict.
Therefore:

TransmissionofanymaterialinviolationofanyU.S.orstateregulationisprohibited.
Thisincludes,butisnotlimitedto:copyrightedmaterial,threateningorobscenematerial,
ormaterialprotectedbytradesecret.

Useforcommercialactivitiesisnotacceptable.

Useforproductadvertisement,personalbusiness,orpoliticallobbyingisalsoprohibited.

PrivilegesTheuseoftheInternetisaprivilege,notaright,andinappropriateusewillresultina
cancellationofthoseprivileges.EachpersonwhoappliesforandreceivesanInternetaccountwill
beinservicedontheproperuseofthenetwork.Thebuildingadministrationwilldecidewhatis
inappropriateuseandtheirdecisionmaybeappealedtothesuperintendent.Theadministrationof
theLowerCapeMayRegionalSchoolDistrictmaydeny,revoke,orsuspendspecificuser
accountsbasedonadeterminationofinappropriateuse.

NetworkEtiquetteYouareexpectedtoabidebythegenerallyacceptedrulesofnetwork
etiquette.Theseinclude(butarenotlimitedto)thefollowing:

Bepolite.Donotsendordisplayoffensivemessagesand/orpictures.

Useappropriatelanguage.Donotswear,usevulgaritiesoranyotherinappropriate
language.Illegalactivitiesarestrictlyforbidden.

Donotrevealpersonaladdressesorphonenumbersofstudentsorcolleagues.

Notethatelectronicmail(email)isnotguaranteedtobeprivate.Peoplewhooperatethe
systemdohaveaccesstoallmail.Messagesrelatingtoorinsupportofillegalactivities
maybereportedtotheauthorities.

Donotusethenetworkinsuchawaythatwoulddisrupttheuseofthenetworkbyother
users.

Allcommunicationsandinformationaccessibleviathenetworkshouldbeassumedtobe
privateproperty.

LowerCapeMayRegionalSchoolDistrictmakesnowarrantiesofanykind,whetherexpressed
orimplied,fortheserviceitisprovidingandwillnotberesponsibleforanydamagessuffered.
Thisincludeslossofdataresultingfromdelays,nondeliveries,misdeliveries,orservice
interruptionscausedbyitsownnegligenceorusererrorsoromissions.Useofanyinformation
obtainedviatheInternetisattheuser'sownrisk.LowerCapeMayRegionalSchoolDistrict
specificallydeniesanyresponsibilityfortheaccuracyorqualityofinformationobtainedthrough

involvesmanyusers.

WhenasecurityproblemontheInternetisidentified,anadministratorshouldbe
immediatelynotified.

prohibited.

Anyuseridentifiedasasecurityriskorhavingahistoryofproblemswithothercomputer
systemsmaybedeniedaccesstoInternet.

VandalismVandalismwillresultincancellationofprivileges.Vandalismisdefinedasany
maliciousattempttoharmordestroydataofanotheruser,Internet,oranyoftheabovelisted
agenciesorothernetworksthatareconnectedtotheNSFNETInternetbackbone.Thisincludes,
butisnotlimitedto,theuploadingorcreationofcomputerviruses.

Anystudentviolationoftheseconditionswillresultindisciplinaryactionasdefinedinthedistrict's
disciplinarycode.
