OVERVIEW OF THE MAJOR


The Communication Arts major is a Bachelor
of Arts degree offered to students through the
Department of Communicaiton Arts.
The goal for every CMAT student is to:
Become aware of the importance of
communication
Improve communication skills
Learn how to problem solve
Achieve competnecy in one or more fields
Understand organizational communication
by studying intercultural communication
and international media

PRACTICUM

CMAT 249 is a 2-credit course requirement for


all studnets in the J/PR track. It is a mini-internship that gives the opportunity to gain professional experience in an area of interest.
Prerequisites:
Declare CMAT as your major and J/PR as
your track
Earn a C or better in CMAT 240 (Introduction to Journalism and Public Relations)

40 credits, or 10 courses
16 of the 40 credits must be at the
300-level
Transfer students must complete 15
semester hours in Communicaton Arts
courses at SU with a grade of C or better

The Communication Arts Department and the


Fulton School of Liberal Arts strongly encourage all majors and minors to become global
learners in order to better prepare them for
life, work and citizenship in the global 21st
century.

INTERNSHIPS

Internships are a great way to gain real world


experience. CMAT students of any track can
complete an internship to fulfill the CMAT 495
requirement, or to simply learn more about
their field.

Two types of programs are offered:


Area Studies Minors
Students completing an Area Studies Minor
can choose to study abroad for at least 1 semester to complete their minor in either African, East Asian, European, Latin American, or
South Asian studies.
Salisbury Abroad Semester Programs
Spend a semseter abroad to satisfy your
CMAT 399 major requirement. This can be
fulfilled over any semester, including Summer
and Winter. Destinations include England,
Spain, Korea, Italy, Ireland, Ghana, and more!
