Personal Care Serv ices People who work in this group of occupations improve the physical
appearance of others. They provide services such as cutting and coloring their hair, suggesting
attractive makeup, doing their nails, or helping them improve their physical fitness.

attractive makeup, doing their nails, or helping them improve their physical fitness.

Performing Arts People who work in this group represent a variety of specialties that are needed to
produce theatrical and musical productions. These specialties include those who plan the details of a
production and direct it, agents who find jobs for actors or musicians, people who design costumes and
stage sets, and crews who handle lighting and other technical things. This group also includes the
actors and musical artists that provide the entertainment.

Emergency and Fire Management Serv ices People who work in this group protect the public by
helping when there are emergencies. Some rescue people who are trapped in a fire, car accident, or
natural disaster such as a tornado or flood. Others drive and provide emergency medical care to
patients in ambulances or at home before they arrive at a hospital. Still others oversee and manage
rescue operations.

Therapeutic Serv ices People who work in this group of occupations deal directly with patients to
provide whatever kind of medical care or treatment they need. Many kinds of technicians, nurses, and
medical assistants who work under the direction of medical doctors are included.

Restaurants and Food/Bev erage Serv ices People who work in this group of occupations plan and
manage events and facilities where people enjoy food and drinks. These tasks may be done in an
airplane, a convention center, a hotel, a restaurant, or in any other place where social events are held.

Early Childhood Dev elopment and Serv ices People who work in this group of occupations take care
of children. They lead them in play and in learning activities. They may work in schools, childcare
centers, libraries, or private homes.

Law Enforcement Serv ices People who work in this group of occupations attempt to reduce crime
and keep the public safe. They guard neighborhoods, roads, airports, and public places. They arrest
people who break the law or issue parking and speeding tickets. They may testify in court. They may
investigate crimes and answer calls for help.

National Security People who work in these occupations are helping to protect the security of our
nation in some way. Many are members of the branches of the armed forces. Many work in airports to
assure that weapons are not taken onto airplanes. Others work to gather information about possible
attacks on our country or our armed forces. Special Note: This pathway is new and emerging, and as
such, occupations beneath it have yet to be classified. As the U.S. Department of Labor continues to
update information, occupations will be organized under the pathway for exploration.

Correction Serv ices People who work in this group of occupations are concerned with youth or adults
who have broken the law. Some investigate and solve crimes. Some guard criminals after they have
been placed in jail or prison. Others work with offenders who will soon leave prison or have already left
to help them find and keep work. Still others monitor prisoners for a period of time after they have
been released.
