Journal Entry #5 Satire

Lukewarm Christians

At a University of almost 28,000 students of all different ages, races, ethnicities, creeds
and religions we are truly one of our states biggest melting pots of ideas and multi-cultural
world views. Nobody is perfect. We all have our fair share of demons and flaws. But religion
offers us a chance to help fix our imperfections and fight our demons allowing us to become a
better well-rounded individual. From Hindus and Buddhist to the Jewish and the Muslim. From
Mormons and Catholics to even the Church of Scientology in my opinion the one religion that
takes the cake is none other than those fantastic and wholesome Christians. These arent just any
plain Jane Christians that Im referring to, oh no, in fact these are the special kind of lukewarm
Christians.
When you think of Christians you probably think of the following statements; People
who are very respectful and morally wholesome. Obey and read The Word of God [The Holy
Bible] to try and apply its meanings and moral value to their everyday lives. Christians try their
absolute best to be the best that they can be even though we are imperfect.
Believe it or not this isnt the case. You know they are all going to heaven no matter
what! If you say a certain prayer and say, a b and c statements then they are saved from going to
Hell. But from what Ive seen firsthand here at UNCC Christians absolutely love to get plastered
drunk every chance they get during the weekend and while theyre drinking a beer they like to

roll up a big fat joint and mellow out to some Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Whenever they
arent drinking or high as a kite you find that they are having sexual intercourse like there Mr.
and Mrs. Bunny Rabbit during Woodstock. Even though they do all of these damaging and
potential dangerous extra-curricular activities on their bodies that by Gods good grace they still
somehow pull off a miracle. They sober up just enough to stay conscious on Sundays during
church to only get a slap on the wrist and mean looks by the local pastor and all is forgiven. They
go right back to their life of debauchery on Monday while everyone thinks they are still perfect
and spotless little angles that we all honestly know they are.
The lukewarm Christians obvious realize what The Bible [Modern Message Version]
clearly says in Romans 12:1-2, So heres what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your
everyday, ordinary lifeyour sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around lifeand
place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do
for him. Dont become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.
Instead, fix your attention on God. Youll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize
what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always
dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops wellformed maturity in you. The Father, God. "Romans 12:1-2." The Bible. Print. They
completely understand that what they are doing is totally not going to make them seem like a
hypocrites for going against how God commanded them to live their lives. Taking up the title and
responsibilities of a Christian is to understand that you are taking a literal and physical stand
against living a life that todays culture is offering us. They think life and God is like Burger
King, that you can live life both their and Gods way. Life is just all fun and games like it is just
one big never ending party.

Lukewarm Christians completely comprehend that they are giving faithful, morally sound
Christians like me and my friends and family a bad name. They sincerely say theyre genuinely
sorry for the extensive damage that theyve done. Not to mention that they are well aware that on
a daily basis they scare off more potential converts through their hypocrisy and their reputation
alone. I feel as if they want to commit and turn over a new leaf once they are done having fun.
Its plain as day that lukewarm Christians just need to find themselves and find their place in
the world even though as Christians they already know that they find their identity in Christ
Jesus alone and in nobody else. I honestly believe that they are sincere and truly get that what
they are doing is wrong. I feel that they continue to screw up and have a tendency to get
themselves into deeper trouble than they were before. But thats just human nature. I mean as
Christians they know God forgives them if they confess but theyre obviously aware that once
they are forgiven they are to try and better themselves as to avoid stumbling on the same step
twice.
So God Bless them! I think that some of these lukewarm Christians could honestly be
the next Billy Graham and C.S. Lewis of the Christian Faith. It only takes one or two of these
innocent angels to start up a Christian revival that could help our country get on track again.
