Novem ber
Here's W h at W e Are W orkin g On :
Reading: We have been focusing on realistic
fiction during our reading groups. We are
doing lots of work with character
development, text-self connections,
text-world connections, plot, and
comparing and contrasting books. We have
also reviewed non-fiction and have been
working with text features and learning how
they help readers.
Writ ing: We wrote "Ouch Stories" to
conclude our personal narrative unit. In
these stories the learners had to include a
hook sentence, sequencing words (first,
next, then, last), emotion, and lots of detail.
We also wrote "How-To" stories. For these,
learners chose to write how to build a yurt,
longhouse or wishing flag. We also wrote
how to make a Halloween Brew! Our unit for
this month is Poetry. Learners will be
learning how to write different kinds of
poems and adding them to their Poetry
Journal.
Mat h: In math, we have been working on
rounding to the nearest ten and hundred.
We have been estimating and seeing if our
estimate is "reasonable" or not. This month
we will move onto multiplication and
division.
Social St udies: We will be learning about
the first Thanksgiving (Pilgrims, The
Mayflower, The Wampanoag Tribe, etc.)
Science: We have finished our unit on
Ecosystems. Our next unit will be on Life
Cycles! We will start with the life cycle of a
Betta Fish :)
