I have known her as an educator, and a valuable part of our math collaboration team at California High School. She possesses the ability to be a firm but fair instructor with a compassion and understanding for each and every student that she encounters. She also has a keen grasp of mathematical concepts and an incredible ability to break down concepts for ease of understanding allowing students to integrate the new concepts with whose they have previously leamed. She expresses her expectations clearly and follows through to assist each student in maximizing their potential. As an educator in the math class, Kortney not only has a keen grasp on math concepts, but an incredible ability to break down key processes for students who have difficulty addition to understanding the math processes, Kortney is able to help students minimize their fear of math and feel comfortable with what they can accomplish. She builds their skills and their self confidence while in the classroom. 1 have been privileged to observe her Algebra classes. The students are on task and working both independently and often collaboratively during performance tasks, Students are aware of the expectations that have been set. Kortney is able to listen and give direction to students as they explain their individual needs. They can often be seen at her desk receiving individual instruction as needed. It is clear to see that she is in complete control of the classroom and yet the students feel comfortable to patiently await individual help. Kortney’s rapport with the students is evident since students frequently drop in to get help and advice even after they have passed her class. Kortney has been an integral part of our Algebra 1 team taking the lead in pacing, assessments, and integration of technology. She is willing to try new approaches to presenting materials and is always willing to share those experiences with her team and the math department. She has a keen grasp of the common core standards for her subject area and those that are affected by her subject area. Her work has been instrumental in the success of our students, Kortney has experience in many areas. She is an effective educator, deals with parents with compassion and understanding, and is able to help struggling students when necessary by giving her time outside of class, Her experience gives her the insight and knowledge to deal with teachers, curriculum leaders, counselors, parents, and students, In all interaction, Kortney exemplifies the authority, knowledge. and compassion to listen and promote positive results. She never lets her emotions get the best of her in heated situations. She consistently holds her ground to achieve what is best for the student.
