Nathaniel Brande was a Canadian-American psychotherapist and writer known

for his work in the psychology of self-esteem. He is the founder of self-esteem
movement in psychology, which was formerly associated with Ayn Rand.

This book source focused on the Six Pillars of Self-Esteem the levels in which
person can obtain/gain self-esteem in themselves. The pillars in which he explains
throughout his book, correlates to the idea of how outside influences and social
interactions can either cause harm or benefit the self-worth of the individual
overall. This sourced focused on highlighting the importance each pillar, such as
parenting can have a vital role to the outcome of the individual either being high
or low, I their stages of self-esteem. The sources, overall helped with identifying
some factors that can help or hurt a person as him/her develop their self-worth and
self-esteem over time.

Reflection:

This book source help to identify some leading factors, in the development of self-esteem
for an individual. His outlook on the six main things that have an effect on the selfesteem, I would have to say is mostly accurate because of how crucial the childhood and

parenting an individual receives can determine the outcome of their self-esteem level. I
was shocked to find that education plays a vital role in our development of self-esteem,
due to how it challenges the individual intellectually. Overall, this book source added the
foundation of effect outside influences have on the development of self-esteem.

Louise Z. Buck , William F. Walsh, and Golda Rothman, are all teachers at the
Columbia University, in which they all work within the psychology departments.

This secondary source, in which writers have developed a research attempt to

question the idea of socialization and moral development. This study also
highlights the idea of how often parents misjudge their kids in order to justify
their own person motives. This source focused on the idea of parents and us, as
individuals often misjudge the milestones and the meaningful accomplishments in
others, in order to promote our own morals and goals. This source relates to my
essay because it depicts how parents often overlook the milestones in a child
life, trying to promote their own milestones and morals.

Reflection:

This secondary source focused on the misjudgments parents tend to make when they pay
less attention to the milestones in the child, rather than their own personal goals. This
source allowed me to want to connect to Christopher McCandless, in order to see if he

felt his parents overlooked what he viewed has milestones in his life, as to what they saw
fit in their eyes. This source provided an answer to why parents view things of
importance, different from that of an adolescent teen and a toddler. Overall, I agreed with
many of the points in this source and the outlook it had on parent, as a collective group.

Dr. Donna Hancock Hoskins, Ph.D. is the Assistant Professor of Health and
Human Sciences at Bridgewater College. She has obtained in her field of teaching
skills in thins such as: Parent-Child Relationship and Sociology of the Family.

This secondary source from the google scholar page, highlighted the idea of the
type A or type B parenting style and techniques. This source helped me to
focus on trying to get Christopher McCandless to describe his parents in reference
to how society perceived them and then I would ask him which type he would
consider his parents to be. This source expanded on the idea of one style of
parenting exhibiting a certain reaction in society and their outcome, and then
relating the differences between the two. Overall, I agree with this source since it
did explain the main goal in which I was trying to accomplish, which was how the
style of parenting does affect the outcome of the individual.

Reflection:

This secondary source focused on the outcome ones style of parenting has on a child.
This source provided information, in which expanded on the involvement of parents and
those factors in which can have either a positive or negative affect on the child, in the

future. I agreed with this source, as a whole because I liked the idea of comparing two
styles of parenting, in order to contrast the good and bad between the two. This source
also highlights the importance of interacting with individuals and the outcome it tends to
have on a person. Overall, I agree with this source and as it relates to the parenting of an
individual and the outcome because of the style of parenting.

Christopher Johnson Chris McCandless, was an American hiker who ventured
to the Alaskan wilderness in April 1992, with little of anything with the hopes of

time in solitude.
This Primary source, takes part in my essay as the main individual in my
personal interview, between, him and myself. This interview was important
because it provides a personal response from a main direct source. This interview
allows for my audience to grasp a sense of his voice as we talked throughout the
interview. I wanted the audience to use their imagination, as well as a rational
mind just to evaluate the interview itself, being that Christopher McCandless is no

longer alive.
This personal interview relates to my topic because it focuses on the point of view
from the direct source Christopher McCandless himself. This interview help me
draft up the concept, in which I was trying to accomplish overall. My concept was
to get the audience to connect with Christopher on a more personal level as if he
was still here today. This interview was a challenging thing to accomplish because
I had to imagine how I perceived Christopher McCandless after hearing his story,
as well as being able to relate my findings in the form of a interview between the
main concept and myself.

Reflection:

This personal interview plays a vital role in my essay overall because it allows myself
as a writer to experiment with seeing how I believe Christopher would react if he was still
alive today. This interview provides a useful sense of being with Christopher McCandless
on a more personal level. I feel as though I can ask him about any and everything relate
to his family, himself, and his adventures because he was so secure in who he was as a an
American Hiker. I was intrigued to present my findings this way, because it was a
challenge as a writer to incorporate a professional and personal outlook on the same
interview at the same time. This interview was an enjoyable experience, because I was
able to be creative in what I felt expressed, the messaged I gained overall from the story
of Christopher McCandless. Overall, I enjoyed this creative experience and being able to
see Christopher McCandless through my eyes.

Carl E. Pickhardt, Ph.D. is a psychologist in Austin, Texas. His most recent books are: The
Connected Father, The Future of Your Only Child, and Stop Screaming.

This is an internet source in which the writer has created a blog post, where he highlights
the importance behind the development of a child based on the parental involvements and
the expectations of society as a whole. He also talks about the unrealistic approach and
expectations parents use on their kids , in order to save face with those around them,
rather than focusing on the needs of the child. This blog post allowed me to understand

and connect with the article itself, because he broke down his message to where if parents
wanted to relate this article to their child, they could do so effectively.
Reflection:
This blog post on the Problems of Parental Experiences, focused mainly on creating a
relationship between the expectations and the unrealistic approach parents take with their
children in order to fulfill society expectations. His outlook on how the involvements of
parents in a childs life plays a vital role to the outcome overall. I was intrigued to read about
the unrealistic approach and expectations parents in todays society put on their kids as a
whole. Being the daughter of the pastor this hits home for me when it comes to society and
the pressure of living up to what others view is the right thing for youre to do with your life.
In conclusion, this source hit both close to home for me and sparked my interest.

Richard W. Robins is a Professor of Psychology at the University of California, with a
Ph.D. in Psychology from University of California, Berkeley. Kali H. Trzesniewski is
another professor who works at the University Of Western Ontario, with a Ph.D. in
Psychology and a B.S., in Human Development from the University of California, Davis.

This is a secondary source came from the google scholar source page, in which I
researched the idea of how the Self-Esteem in an individual changes over time. This
source is an article which addresses the developmental status of children in todays
society. This source highlights the importance change is to an individual and the

influences outside inputs such as parents and social interaction. This source allow me to
see the development of self-esteem in ones life overtime, which provided ample amount
of information in reference to how Christopher developed over time. This source relates
to my topic because it focuses on the developmental process of the given matter, and
relates it back to the outcome of the individual overall.
Reflection:
This secondary source on the Development of Self-Esteem over a Lifespan, focused on the
overall structure of the stages an individual goes through, from early childhood to their
elderly years. This source provided the necessary examples such as the rating associated with
the age of the individual and the outside involvements. I was interested in the stages of how
they classified the development of self-esteem and the vital, yet crucial affect society has on
us as individuals today. This source relates to my article because it provides a statistical
report on the development of self-esteem in a person, which then provides e with the
necessary information to relate Christophers life back to his self-esteem, as an individual.
