XSplit User Guide: Software for Recording Your Computer Screen

If you would like to take a video screen capture of some activity happening on your
computer screen, XSplit is a free software that will allow you to do so. This guide will
teach you how to download, install, and use XSplit.
Prerequisites
You will need a computer with an internet connection and familiarity with basic
computer skills to follow this guide.

Troubleshooting
-If you have trouble following any of these steps, or if they do not work as expected,
try resolving them through an online search. The forum at http://support.xsplit.com
is a good resource.

Step 1: Open a web browser and navigate to http://xsplit.com

Step 2: Click the orange DOWNLOAD FREE VERSION button in the middle of the
page
Step 3: On the next page, click the orange REGISTER FREE ACCOUNT button.
Enter an email and password for your account and click register now. Make sure
you remember the email and password, you will need them to use XSplit.
Step 4: The XSplit installer download will begin. Run it when the download
completes
Step 5: The wizard will install XSplit on your computer. As you click through the
screens of the wizard it is recommended that you use the default settings it
suggests.

Step 6: Launch XSplit once it is finished installing.

Step 7: Log in using the account you created before downloading the software.

Step 8: Because this is the free version of XSplit, an advertisement for the paid
version will appear. After 10 seconds you can click the continue button in the
lower right to exit the ad.

Step 9: Prepare whatever programs you would like to have recorded in your screen
capture.

Step 10: The main XSplit window is mostly black because we have no video
sources yet. Click file->add screen region

Step 11: A red crosshair will appear. You can use it to select what you want to
record. You can (A) record a program or (B) record a screen region
A) Hovering over a program will allow you select only that program to be
recorded. XSplit will take a video of whatever happens in that program, no
matter where you move it on the screen or how you resize the window.

B) Clicking and dragging from any point on your screen other than a program
will allow you to specify a screen region to record. XSplit will take a video
of whatever is displayed on that area of your screen. This is helpful if your
recording will include multiple programs, or if you would like to record
your entire screen.

Step 12: To start your recording, click broadcast->local recording

XSplit will show you a popup to confirm that it has started recording video:

Perform the actions that would like to have recorded.

Step 13: When you are finished, stop recording the same way you started, by
clicking broadcast->local recording
Step 14: To open and view your video, the folder it was saved to can be accessed
by clicking tools->my recordings
