FHS 2500 Activity/ Lesson Plan Evaluation

PART 2: SELF EVALUATION

Fall 2015
Activity Title: 3 Activities Plan
Student Name: _LeeAnn Cheatham_________________________________
Date Activity was implemented: ____October 5, 2015____________________
Assessing and Reflecting on Childrens Learning:
1. Describe and analyze how the children met/did not meet your learning objectives for this lesson Plan:
The children met my objectives for this lesson. They each sorted the pompoms for the small group
activity and were most interested in the large foam blocks for the child initiated activity. During the
Teacher directed activity the children were engaged and seemed to enjoy listening to the story, and
choosing an animal from the bucket. We had a small group of children because of absences so I was not
able to observe all of the children.

2. Describe and analyze how the documentation that you collected supports your analysis in #1 above
(attach all documentation to this form): I wanted to observe which children understood the concept of
sorting and identifying matching colors. I documented my findings with each child by writing down how
they sorted the pompoms.

3. After considering the information above, discuss possible next steps for future activities: I feel that the
activities went well. I would choose different activities from paper and crayons and cars, trains because
the children probably do these activities a lot. I will find something more exciting and different. Most of
the children understood the concept of sorting. I would choose an activity more challenging to the
children.

Teaching Effectiveness:
1. Was the activity carried out as planned in your Activity Description (be specific)? What changes to your
plan were made and why? Most of the activities were carried out as planned. Instead of naming items
that were a certain color, I let the children choose colored animals out of a bucket. This activity was
changed because I found the animals when looking for blocks and thought the children would like them.
Which they did. It was a good switch. I could not find cups to sort pompoms into so I had a piece of
paper for each color, the children placed the pompoms on the papers. It worked well. I didnt use the
easel, instead I placed a large piece of paper on the floor.

2. Describe and explain the strengths of your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation: The children had
fun and practiced their sorting skills. I was able to spend one on one time with each child and observe
them individually. The children listened when I read the story because I read with enthusiasm.

3. Describe and explain the areas for improvements in your Activity Lesson Plan and implementation: I feel
like the activities I planned were age appropriate. Implementation went according to plans as far as
amounts of time spent on each activity.

4. Reflect on your teaching experience. What did YOU learn from this activity? I enjoyed observing each
child individually it. It was fun to watch how each of them sorted the pompoms. Some of them sorted
out all the pompoms of one color first and then moved on to another color. Some sorted according to
randomly picking up a pompom. Some said the colors as they sorted and some counted the pompoms
after they sorted them. I learned that the children enjoy one on one interaction. I had fun and enjoyed
observing the children.
