Activities/Strategies:

Student will be able to distinguish the different type of ways to

communicate. They will be able to distinguish between the
different types of communication and learn effective
communication. They will also have a general overview of
various communication concepts and understand the meaning
of each form of communication.
-Power point presentation
(Provide more visuals to aid in comprehension
as well as keeping statements on my power point
brief and straight to the point without exceeding
into long sentences so that my student will
understand the lesson better).
-Puzzle
-Whole class
-Groups of two
-Flexible groups of four
(A journal entry that will require notes and
statements regarding the meaning of
communication and what in their opinion do they
think are the different ways to communicate or a
dialogue journal entry where the student can
write about anything that interests them).
-In groups of two, have students put a puzzle together without
speaking.
(This activity will help my ELL student get a better
understanding of the class discussion on
communicating by using non-verbal skills and the
ability to point at objects to put a puzzle
together).
-In flexible groups of four, have students come up with a story to
tell using words, while having the other students try and guess.

(This activity will also help my ELL student get a

better understanding of the class discussion by
working together in a group as well as
participating as a group to put together a simple
story line or just a brief story about themselves
using non-verbal skills like body language,
gestures, and pointing).

Have students use argumentation in order to help in their

discussion about the different types of communication and how
these types of communication can be effective in our lives
through a class discussion.

Learners Description:
This ELL student is in Stage 3, the speech emergence stage. The strategies that I have
selected will support my ELL student because it includes visuals, simple verbal skills, as
well as non-verbal skills to help my ELL achieve a greater understanding of my lesson
and class discussions. They will be able to contribute and participate in my class
discussions through the different instructions and activities that I have provided. They will
be able to comprehend and ask simple questions during my power point presentation,
which will include visuals to help them envision what I am trying to say. They will also be
able to write a journal entry whether it is about them, something that interests them or
their understanding of my lesson and be able to read the short article I have provided to
fill out the Discussion Web. Lastly, they will be able to participate with their groups and
come up with a simple skit to present in a non-verbal way.
