Title: Should corporal punishment be allowed in schools?

I.

Introduction (Paragraph 1)
A.

Hook: What do you think of first when you think of the past, especially
about your teachers and schools?

B.

Connecting information: Most people have many memories, such as


relationships with teachers and friends or studying hard to get good
grades, of their school days.

C.

Thesis statement: Among the memories of ones life, childhood


memories are among the most important memories, because they
can influence ones character, personality, consciousness and sense
of value. Corporal punishment is one of the biggest issues at schools
around the world.

II.

Body

A. Paragraph 2 topic sentence: First, corporal punishment can lower selfesteem for both the teachers and students.
1. It could be a great psychological trauma for a student and
linger on later in life.
2. Once bitten, twice shy. This proverb means that a person can feel
shock in familiar conditions due to a previously experienced
trauma.
3. Corporal punishment affects and influences ones personality and
character, so that one feels that corporal punishment or violence is
justified whenever somebody else makes a mistake or commits a
fault.

B. Paragraph 3 topic sentence : There are means or ways, other than the
corporal punishment, to educate students in what is right and wrong.
1. Physical punishment is not the only or the best way of teaching
right and wrong.
2. It would be more positive and better to teach lessons individually
according to the mistakes, behaviors and situations that occur.
3. The important point is for students to understand what is right and
wrong, and to reflect on their own wrongdoings.

C. Paragraph 4 topic sentence (counterargument and refutation): Some


people might argue to the contrary that corporal punishment is an
appropriate means of education and a kind of self-defense for a
teacher.
1. Sometimes, it is very difficult for some teachers to regulate many
students in numerous circumstances.
2. Moreover, a teacher cannot focus only on particular students, so
most educators unavoidably use corporal punishment to reduce the
time, cost and energy of disciplining a student
3. A quick and prompt response would be more helpful in maintaining
and stabilizing the school every day.

III.

Conclusion (Paragraph 5)
A. Restated thesis: To sum up, there are both advantages and
disadvantages of corporal punishment. Even though there are
some advantages, such as being easier and quicker for a teacher

to discipline a student, corporal punishment should be banned from


schools, as it could destroy a students self-esteem and confidence,
as well as possibly create traumatize the student.
B.

Opinion: Having huge responsibilities and duties to guide many


young students to execute their tasks and to teach proper lessons
both in school subjects and life, the roles of teachers and schools
are very important and significant. Therefore, schools must ban
physical punishment on all accounts.
