Relationships
Relationship with Catherine- Edgar loves and
understands Catherine more than anyone realizes,
but love alone is not enough to sustain the
relationship.
Catherine chose Edgar over Heathcliff which
initiated the conflict between Edgar and Heathcliff.

Physical Appearance

Described as youthful, slender and soft featured, this questions his


masculinity, results in the reader viewing him more feminine

Edgar represents the typical Victorian hero, possessing qualities of

not the type of person who can make Catherine happy in the long
run.

A prominent feature of Edgars character is his fear of
Catherines temper, and subsequently his willingness
to cater to her every need.
Nelly suggests he has a deep rooted fear of ruffling
her humour. It was from this that forced him to give
into Catherines request for Heathcliff to be allowed
to visit her at Thrushcross Grange.
