Dear Cooperating Teacher,

Thank you for agreeing to have a student from WITCs Early Childhood Education
program in your classroom. Your time, effort and guidance are most appreciated both by
the student and me.
I want to inform you of a policy that WITC has concerning bloodborne pathogens and
universal precautions. Students in the Early Childhood Education program are required
to protect themselves from infectious diseases in the following ways:
1. They are required to wear gloves:
a. when touching blood and/or body fluids, mucous membranes or non-intact skin of
any individual
b. when handling items or surfaces soiled with blood and/or body fluids
c. when changing diapers and disinfecting the diapering area
2. Wash hands frequently as per the guidelines while on site.
3. Follow proper procedures when cleaning up blood spills or body fluids (i.e. vomit).
The students are required to bring a box of disposable gloves to each practicum site for
their own use. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this policy.
Thank you.
Sincerely,

Vicki Harmon
