April: Welcome back to todays show. We will be meeting up with
our very own, New Yorks famous vigilantes, the Ninja Turtles. Please welcome, Mikey, Donny, Raphael, and Leo! *turtles enter* CAYLA (April): So guys, you were named after some famous artists of the Renaissance. Weve decided to do a new bit on art for all of our art appreciators out there. So tell me what you know about the Renaissance? It started in France, didnt it? RIA (Leo): Well no, the Renaissance started in Florence, Italy actually, in about the 14th century and ended in the 17th century. It had a huge influence on art and the way the artists thought during this time period was just mind blowing to people at that time. I was named after Leonardo da Vinci, although some people think I was named after Leonardo di Caprio. But Da Vinci was an artistic mastermind. He was mostly a painter, depicting pictures of Humanism *Raph interrupts* Arick (Raph): which was one of the biggest reasons for the success of the Renaissance. Humanism was big during that time because art, nearly all kinds, were focusing on Gods and angels and religious things. But Humanism changed that and started depicting human nature as is. Less halos, more REAL people and feelings of people. Cayla (April): And there was symbolism, too? Right? I mean, everything had a hidden meaning.
Sierra (Mikey): Everything was hidden yeah, definitely. I mean, I
found a slice of pizza in a painting just the other day, bro. I was like, Woah look, Cowebunga duddddeeee! Hey do we have any pizza? Im hungry, man. Isaac (Donny): Uh anyway, as Leo was saying earlier, the Renaissance had a huge impact on art today. We now can look back on the masterpieces created during that time for inspiration. It shows us the importance of innovation and thinking outside of the box. Renaissance is a French word meaning rebirth, and that is exactly what happened. Art was looked at in a new way, connecting the views of old with that of now. Its been said that the Renaissance is considered the bridge between the Middle Ages and Modern World. Cayla (April): And you were all named after some very influential people of this time period. If Im not mistaken, these gentleman have quite the extensive list of skills. Renowned painters, sculptors, architects, the list goes on! Weve got Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Donatello. If you guys werent so famous for being Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you always have those names to fall back on. Do you guys know any famous artworks of your name sakes? Ria (Leo): Mona Lisa was one of his most famous. Also the Last Supper is a very well-known piece by da Vinci. Arick (Raph): Raphael painted the School of Athens and also another well-known piece called the Sistine Madonna. Isaac (Donny): Donatello made the famous sculpture of David and St. Mark, to name a few. Cayla (April): Wait, where is Mikey? *Sierra (Mikey) enters with a pizza box* Ria (Leo): Mikey. Sierra (Mikey): Pizzas here!!! *all glare*
Sierra (Mikey): What? Its cheese!
Cayla (April): Well that concludes todays show!! Thanks guys for coming *looks at camera* And thank YOU guys for tuning in to todays special! Im your host, April ONeal and well see you tomorrow, right here on New York Daily! Goodbye everyone
