How it was met

Throughout the internship, I used a variety of teaching methods to
appeal to all types of learners. I spoke to the class, and encouraged
them to speak and participate in discussions; I also used visuals,
played videos, and had activities that required students to get up
and move around.
I made sure I knew subject matter before I delivered a lesson, and I
constantly assessed for prior knowledge (pre-tests, Q and A). I
Utilized formative and summative assessment techniques such as
discussions, Q and A, thumbs up, review games, tests and quizzes,
and practice booklets.
I demonstrated punctuality, maturity, professionalism, and a strong
interest in the profession throughout the internship.
I made sure that GLOs and SLOs of the units I taught were covered.
This was more straightforward in Social Studies as it was laid out. In
Language Arts I only covered a couple during the four month
internship.
I read through the Program of Studies for Language Arts and Social
Studies. I familiarized myself with the Social textbook and made
sure I knew the answers to questions that I foresaw being asked by
my class.
I differentiated instructions and activities for my coded students and
some students that I saw needed extra support. This came in the
form of modified assignments, providing a reader on tests, giving
students notes prior to a lesson, or after a lesson depending how
much they were able to copy down.
I focused on my time management during my lessons making sure
to have an intro, body, and closure for each lesson. I also made sure
my pacing for course material flow was good not too fast, or too
slow. I prepared a year plan, unit plan, and daily lesson plans to
have a rough guideline of where the class should be at by a certain

time.
Conscious effort to get to know students names by the second
week so they knew I wanted to get to know them on a personal
level. Once I built a strong rapport with my students, I used their
names in class examples if I knew they would be comfortable with
it. I also had several jokes with the class and used sarcasm as a way
to play around with them. I also had twin day with my class where
we all dressed alike for the day.
Established positive relationships with all students. This was one of
my strengths and had several observers comment on my ability to
build a great rapport with my classes.
I dealt with behaviour issues appropriately using both low-key and
high-key responses, depending on the student and the
circumstance.
I used a variety of methods to deliver curriculum to appeal to all
learning styles. (videos, selected readings, read-alouds, pictures
and drawings, and activities requiring movement)
I incorporated a variety of teaching methods for each lesson (ex.
Notes, videos, powerpoints, smartnote notes, discussions, lectures,
etc.).

My assessment philosophy played a big role in my use of formative

and summative assessments. I had more formative than summative
assessments and made sure to check for group, and individual
understanding. I used several forms of assessments including:
quizzes, exit slips, speed dating, review activities, report cards, Q
and A, jeopardy, and visual cues such as thumbs up/thumbs down.
I also created assignments, tests, and rubrics.
I sent weekly emails home to keep parents informed about what the
week was going to look like and any important dates to remember.
I participated in parent-teacher interviews, and put up assignments

purposefully and meaningfully, in

all aspects of teaching and
learning

accounts.
I also made phone calls home to parents instead of emailing for
more individual contact regarding their child.
To make our current events election lesson more authentic and
relevant, I brought in two politicians to come speak to the class.
I sent home extra practice booklets and assignments that parents
could work on at home with their children and posted answer keys
on the homework site for easy access.
Some of the projects I worked on that contributed to the quality of
the school were: my PIP, the school-wide haunted house, intern
entertainment portion at the staff retreat, G-Club volleyball, School
welcome back dance, gate watcher at the Gator classic tournament,
chicken toss at the Gr. 6 BBQ, weekly lunch and break supervision, I
covered classes for teachers when they needed me to, I helped set

Deal Fish Friday, I was a reader for teachers exams, I sang at the
Chapters fund raiser, I participated in the staff Whip dance, and
offered students lunch hour extra help for Language Arts and Social

I participated in all PD sessions through my school and the district.
After the sessions I reflected on and applied what I learned to my
own teaching.

conduct.
