Psychological Disorder Evaluation
Case Study #31
Diagnosis: This case in particular is very unique. This person suffers
from Dissociative Fugue because they simultaneously fled their
everyday life to somewhere that they were not familiar with. This
person has no recollection of the events that led them to escape
their home life, and could not decipher why.
Behavioral Therapies: There are no known behavioral therapies for
this disorder. A search is in progress, considering this disorder is
brought on by extreme stress, rather than irrational behavior.
Clinical Therapies: Different types of clinical therapy sessions can be
used, focusing on changing dysfunctional thinking patterns that may
cause this particular outcome (Dissociative Fugue). The therapy
creates a goal to accumulate the main issue, by asking certain
questions and conducting activities. Group Therapies: Patients with
this disorder can benefit from having family meetings so family
members can be educated on the disorder and how to best deal with
it, as well as known symptoms to keep an eye out for. Biological
Theories: There are no known drugs to treat Dissociative Fugue right
now, but if a patient suffers from Depression or Anxiety then
antidepressants and antianxiety medications can in some cases help
a patient keep control of their actions (Web MD).
Case Study #38
Diagnosis: This patient in particular suffers from Bipolar Disorder,
where he will experience various extremes of different emotions. He
especially suffers from extreme depression on temporary occasions
and feels as if life is pointless, which is a sign of depression. He also
goes through moments of invincibility where he will go and gamble
all of his money away because he feels he can not lose.
Behavioral Therapies: When dealing with Bipolar Disorder, most
behavioural therapies focus on decreasing stress in a patient's life to
lessen episodes.

Cognitive Therapies: Cognitive therapies typically deal with taking

certain moods that the patient will express and identifying thoughts
and actions that can calm down the reaction (NIMA).
Group Therapies: There are many support groups for patients
suffering from Bipolar Disorder. These groups will focus on teaching
patients coping methods and how to express their problems with
others, which would help with problems of isolationism.
Biological Therapies: There are various medications that can be
used to treat this disorder. The most common types though are
antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers. For some
patients they could take up to several different medications to treat
the disorder.

Case Study #28

Diagnosis: This patient suffers from recurring depression, he was
diagnosed for several years with severe depression and has since
suffered with obeying authority figures. He has also had problems
with his father over the years, when he was younger his father was
never around because of work and the patient began to resent his
father. Over the years he started to develope mixed feelings of
resentment and idolization of his father's work ethics.
Behavioral Therapies: When dealing with depression it helps when
patients exercise regularly and get an adequate amount of sleep.
Most changes are meant to reduce stress in a patient's life to lessen
depressive episodes(Help Guide). Overall living a healthy life in a
positive atmosphere can reduce depressive episodes.
Cognitive Therapies: To deal with depressive episodes it helps to use
techniques that help refrain from negative thoughts which worsen
episodes. Keeping problems and feelings bottled up is considered
unhealthy and can lead to worsening problems. Having a positive
outlook on life is key to staying calm and in control.
Group Therapies: Listening in group therapies can be helpful to
patients because hearing from others who have similar problems
can validate your own and allow you to seek more help and also
give you somewhere to look for support if you are having trouble
solving it on your own.

Biological Therapies: There are a wide variety of antidepressant

medications for patients suffering from depression. There are so
many different types because no one medication is effective with all
forms of depression. Medication is not always the best method to
treat depression but it can be effective for most patients.
