Chapados, Nicolas, et al. "Retail Store Scheduling For Profit." European Journal Of
Operational Research 239.3 (2014): 609-624. Business Source Premier. Web.
20 Nov. 2015.
This article focuses on the relation between scheduling in a retail sales
environment and the profit of that same retail environment. The researchers promote
the notion that additional sales associates can in the right circumstances increase sales.
This goes against the standing approach that bases scheduling on sales forecasts and
previous year data to minimize payroll costs.
I would use this article to support my assertion that increased overlap while
increasing hours will potentially lead to an increase in sales.

Huntersville location. 1 Oct 2015
These documents are the sales figures from the months of September and
October. This coupled with the sales figures from September 2014 and October 2014
will allow me to show the problem that necessitates the research.

suggested in the proposal.

Karanges, Emma, et al. "Optimizing Employee Engagement With Internal

Communication: A Social Exchange Perspective." Journal Of Business Market
Management 7.2 (2014): 329-353. Business Source Complete. Web. 20 Nov.
2015.
This article asserts that employee engagement, the creation of which can be
aided by good communication, increases productivity, lowers turnover, and improved
external reputation of the organization. Communication is theoretically an influence in
the process and maintenance of engagement efforts. The study focuses investigating

the mechanisms by which communication influence engagement. Specifically the

mechanism being studied is whether social factors such as perceived support and
identification play a role in that relationship between communication and engagement.
I will use this study to back up the assertion that communication, when combined
with targeted scheduling, could boost sales, lower customer complaints, and increase
associate morale.
