I will Close Read and take notes to better understand the way of life and customs of Native Americans of the
Pacific Northwest. Vocabulary will be noted, and understood, as some of the terms used by the people of the
Pacific Northwest are still used today in everyday language.

Questions-Progress checks during the lesson

As we read as a class, we will stop to summarize what was just read, and then notes will be taken
As we read notes (Jigsaw the chapter as a class as a whole
Students will need to agree on summaries before they are translated into notes.

Differentiation

Meeting the needs of EL, Special Pop, At Risk, RTI or GATE students

Advanced students will be asked to answer all questions in the lesson review. Students with IEPs
504s will do basic comprehension questions that involve littler inference
Students with special needs will be provided with an outline to work with or fill out for note taking
This outline will also serve as an aid when they are asked to summarize what was just read, in ord
to take notes.

6. Assessment

What will students be able to know and demonstrate at the end of the lesson?

Exit slip - provide me with at least two differences between American Indians of the Pacific
Northwest and those of the Desert Southwest
