Definition of appropriate use:
Technology can be used in the classroom to enhance learning, but should be used
only with permission or direction from the instructor. It is the instructors
responsibility to determine and communicate what type of technology (if any) may
be used in class. For example, students MAY use personal electronic devices to
record lectures, take notes, or conduct research, but must ask for permission from
the instructor. Additionally, students MAY access their cell phones in the case of an
emergency or in the event of personal/family issues, but must first ask for
permission from the instructor.
** The school and/or instructor will not be held liable for any personal technological
devices that are damaged or stolen on school grounds!!**
Examples of inappropriate use include, but are not limited to, the
following:
Using technology as a means to bully or discriminate against others
Cell phone alert notifications (phones should be on silent or turned off)
Texting/accessing cell phone during class without permission
Having headphones in during class or playing music without permission
Using technology to access social media (including but not limited to
Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, personal blogs, wikis, etc.) or games
Using technology to play games that are unrelated to class instruction
Using technology for illegal activities- including pornography and gambling
