Eliza Lyons Personal Policy on Use of Technology in the

Classroom
Definition of appropriate use:

Technology can be used in the classroom to enhance learning, but should be used
only with permission or direction from the instructor. It is the instructors
responsibility to determine and communicate what type of technology (if any) may
be used in class. For example, students MAY use personal electronic devices to
record lectures, take notes, or conduct research, but must ask for permission from
the instructor. Additionally, students MAY access their cell phones in the case of an
emergency or in the event of personal/family issues, but must first ask for
permission from the instructor.
** The school and/or instructor will not be held liable for any personal technological
devices that are damaged or stolen on school grounds!!**

Examples of inappropriate use include, but are not limited to, the
following:
Using technology as a means to bully or discriminate against others
Cell phone alert notifications (phones should be on silent or turned off)
Texting/accessing cell phone during class without permission
Having headphones in during class or playing music without permission
Using technology to access social media (including but not limited to
Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube, personal blogs, wikis, etc.) or games
Using technology to play games that are unrelated to class instruction
Using technology for illegal activities- including pornography and gambling

Consequences for violating policy:

Any violation of this policy will be considered disruptive class behavior. The student
will first be asked to cease the inappropriate use. If the student continues to be
disruptive, the device will be temporarily confiscated (returned at the end of class
period). If the issue is on-going over the course of multiple class periods, the
teacher will meet with the student (and possibly the students parent/legal guardian
or school principle, as needed) to devise an individualized plan for behavior
correction.

Permission to Use Photos and Videos

Photos and videos of a student will only be published with consent of
both the student and parent/legal guardian. If the student is 18 or
older, parental/legal guardian consent is not required
Photos and videos will be used solely to promote and represent
educational programs, activities, and unity within the educational
experience
Photos and videos will never be used in a degrading or disrespectful
manner
The students personal information will not be revealed (address,
phone number, e-mail, etc.)
Students will be identified by first name only, unless directed otherwise
by student or parent/legal guardian
For Student:
