Description
(The subject or focus of the project)

I will be making a mug for my clay project. I was inspired by my

love of coffee to create this wonderful piece of craftsmanship. The
shape of the mug will be inspired by the traditional Chjir teabowl
from Japan. I will also be adding my own design to the mug itself to
add a little flair. I will also be using the techniques I learned from
the clay pretest. This project will help me fulfill my dreams of
having a coffee mug made on my own. The mug will have the
illusion that coffee is being poured from the coffee can into the
mug. To do so, I will incorporate aluminum wire of the 1/16 variety
to attach the coffee can to the mug. I will also try to incorporate
the smell of coffee into the sculpture so all admirers of the aroma
of coffee beans will be able to share my love of coffee. Using
balance in this piece helps create space because it makes things
more distant from each other instead of being concentrated in 1
spot. The sculpture will be 5.5 inches in width, 10 inches in length,
and 7.5 inches in height. I will name this sculpture Mug.
I will be making rainbow stairs for my third and final art project. I
was inspired by Tom Gottslebens rainbow sculpture. The way he
finessed those crystal glass pieces really started something in my
mind. I wanted to bring a traditional rainbow drawing into 3-D. This
project will be created by cutting different pieces of plaster in
varying lengths to look like stairs. Each step will be a different
color. There will also be pieces of plaster on the side to fill up
negative space. Pattern guides color because it makes a variety of
colors. Without patterns, works of art would be a singular color.
With pattern, there can be a sequence of colors within a work of
art. The dimensions of my project are 13x13x9.
I will be making a watermelon made out of plaster for my second
art project. This project was inspired by my love of watermelon. I
was also inspired by Giovanni Stanchis painting depicting 17 th
century fruit. The watermelon in the painting varies vastly
compared to todays watermelon due to selective breeding. This
project will show the watermelon being cut in half, to showcase the
interior of the melon. When the plaster is dry, I will cover the void
with plaster to fill up the negative space. I will then paint it to look
like a real watermelon. I decided to choose this painting for my
project The painting did not really showcase the exterior of the
watermelon, so I decided to put my own twist on it. Unity guides
shape by making the shapes correspond in a sense. To unify your
work of art, you have to use similar shapes that go together. The
measurements on my watermelon are 12.75x5x4
