Lesson Topic: Spice Drop Towers

Instructional Objective: Using the given materials teams of 4 students will create an initial
design, and working collaboratively as a team will build their design with the goal of creating
the tallest tower.

Anticipatory Set: Show a picture of the Eiffel Tower and ask students to tell you what they
know about it.

Teaching: Teach students about the design process and the importance of working
collaboratively with their teams. Then they will be shown multiple examples of towers, from
medieval towers, renaissance era towers to modern towers. Also show the students cell
phone towers.

Active Involvement: Teams will be given 15 minutes to discuss and draw their designs. (15
mins). After teams have plans approved by the company boss (me), they will be given their
materials, and 30 minutes time to build their towers for submittal. (30 mins)

Closure: Students will present their towers, they will describe their idea, challeneges during
the design and build process and how they overcame these obstacles. (10-15 mins)
