1. Purpose
Purpose of this method statement is to define the sequence of cable trays installation and safe execution of
the job.

2. Scope
The procedure applies for cable trays transportation, handling, and installation at all workplaces where
these activities will be performed.

5. Responsibilities

Site Manager:
SM is the first responsible point to follow this procedure,
In cases when the staff do not apply or do not fulfill requirement of this
procedure SM will do required actions such as to inform people who are
unaware, to supply right material, machinery and equipment and/or to ensure
specific training to improve teams ability.
To revise this procedure if it is necessary.
To assign responsible engineers and foremen, to coordinate all activities
To ensure training, informing and updating people who work to apply this
procedure regardless their position,
To coordinate with PPR.

Site Engineer:
To plan, coordinate and supervise all activities such as storage, lifting,
installation.
To apply this procedure in accordance with all standards and specification which
are mentioned in this document,
To implement all protective measures required in accordance with this
document,

Site engineer shall ensure that pre-work checklist is filled


Site engineer ensure the coordination between other adjacent works are well
organized,
To perform inspections on daily basis, before each shift and after events that
could increase hazards.
To identify existing and predictable hazards or working conditions that are
hazardous, unsanitary, or dangerous to employees,
To take prompt corrective measures to eliminate or control hazards and
conditions.
To coordinate with Supervising Engineer from PPR.
To ensure that the staff involved in the activities has read and understand the
method statement.
To brief the staff involved about the healthy and safe performance of all
activities (toolbox talks).
To receive and/or define all standards including this Method Statement,
To obtain all the necessary standards,
To ensure maintenance compliance with this method statement.

HSE Manager from PPR:


To define all HSE procedures to be followed,
Overseeing site activities day-to-day,
To follow with corrective actions of all violations of HSE rules.
To organize for health and safety execution of the job,
To provide and cooperate with the site engineers for toolbox talks.
To ensure that the equipment, tools, PPEs meet the site requirements,
To ensure supervision and compliance with the health and safety provisions of
this document.

Supervising Engineer:
To supervise the activities and to ensure that the job is implemented in
accordance with the design and the provisions of this document,
To provide assistance for the protective measures required in accordance with
this document,
To perform inspections on daily basis,

hazardous, unsanitary, or dangerous to employees,

6. IMPLEMENTATION
6.1.

General

Cable trays are used for carrying cable. Cable trays are consisted of galvanized steel.

6.2.

Equipment List

Screwdriver
Ferret socket wrench
Grinding Machine
Galvanized spray
Cutting Machine
Crane (while it will be used transportation)

6.3.

Transport, Storage

Transportation of cable trays is made when the site is ready. Crane will be used and all necessary
precaution matures will be taken. Providing pickup to transportation of cable trays and
accessories from lay down area to the field. Transportation pickup or crane carriage bag will
have 4m length space, cable trays length is 3m. Use crane and pickup for lifting and carrying
cable trays and accessories. Cable trays stay suitable place, so it prevents to work and workers
work safely.

6.4.

Preparing Element Prior to Installation

6.3.1. Elements Cutting and Welding


Cable Trays comply with the project requirements. Where cutting of the trays is needed, circular
saws will be used. Cable tray cut edges will be rasped or if welding is necessary, galvanized
points will be cleaned then it will be sprayed with galvanizing spray immediately. Spay MSDS
will be ready available at the working place. Protective measures will be taken in accordance
with the MSDS.

6.5.

Installation

Installation will be carried out in accordance with the last approved revision of the installation
projects. Request form for materials will be prepared. Cable trays will be transported from lay
down area to site with pickup. Workers will load the cable trays to the pick manually. Cable trays
will be fixed safely in the pickup board. At the working area, the trays will be placed in a way
that will not prevent safe access and egress. Wooden pallets/supports will be placed to prevent
contact with earth and water. Check will be done for the accessories of cable trays and
preparation of cable accessories for montage, boxes will be opened. The assembly drawings will
be checked on the place of installation. Where welding is required it will be performed by

competent personnel. Tower, fixed and movable type scaffold, which is approved and build
according to safety requirements, will be used as access to works at high. The personnel that will
erect the scaffolding will be competent. Scaffold will be tagged, ladder will be color-coded.
Where work in confined space will be carried out Permit-to-Work will be obtained.
Supports will be fixed with wall plugs to the existing structure. The distance between two
supports will be max 1,5meter. Then the console will be installed to the supports and then cable
trays will be fixed on the console with bolts and joints. Installation of cable trays will be
executed according to the requirements. According to the projects, grounding will be made after
cable trays erection will be done (440-00-BAW-EIP-ROD-001_ Rev1 Earthing and lightning
protection technical specification). After the works is done daily, working areas will be cleaned.

7. HSE
7.1.

Personal protective equipment

PPE will be provided and used in accordance with the Project HSE Manual. Helmet, safety
glasses, high visibility vest, and safety shoes will be used at all the times.
When work in dusty environment personnel will use dust protective half masks.
Hearing protection will be used where exposure levels exceed 85 dB.
When work at height scaffolding will be provided. Fall arrest system will be used if other
protective measures are not feasible.
During manual handling all workers have to wear safety gloves and make sure they are
protective against trip hazards and sharp edges

7.2.

Machinery

All machinery, equipment and tools will be maintained in good working order; will be inspected
regularly and color coded; and will be operated by competent persons. All necessary measures
will be in place in order to prevent environmental pollution. Guards will be in place to protect
workers from moving parts. Electrical tools will be double insulated and grounded connected to
ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCI).
All vehicles will have backing warning device. Banks man will guide vehicles
in narrow work places and when reversing. Vehicles will not pass, will not be
positioned or parked close to excavation edges.

7.3.

Lifting operations

Execution of the lifting operations will comply with the provisions of the
Project HSE Manual.
Cranes will be set on even flat ground. Pads will be used under the outriggers
feet where necessary.

When work is close to excavation the lifting equipment will be positioned


away from the excavation edge according to the soil type and the weather
conditions, in order to prevent earth collapse. Working limits of the lifting
equipment stipulated by the manufacturer will not be exceeded. All lifting
equipment will be stored in closed area away from wet and direct sunlight.
Lifting of the stacks of cable trays will be carried out only with fabric slings with the proper safe
working load limit. Fabric slings shall be protected for sharp edges on the trays. The slings will
be inspected and color-coded.
Lifting operation shall be segregated from other persons on site. All personnel and third
parties will be kept out of any area where they might be struck or crushed by
a load or lifting equipment if it swings, shifts or falls.
Operators of lifting equipment will be able to see the full path of the load or have a signaler with
an appropriate means of communication to guide them. Operator will obey an
emergency stop signal at all times, no matter who gives it. The operator will
not leave the operating controls while the load is suspended.
Taglines will be used all time, it refers to load to be guided and controlled.
Lifting equipment will not be used in the open air where weather conditions could affect the
integrity of the equipment or expose persons to danger. All lifting equipment shall be stored in
closed area away from wet and direct sunlight.

7.4.

Access and housekeeping

Safe access to the workplace will be provided at all times. Guardrails will be provided at the
edges and openings where risk of fall from 1.5 m presents. Top-rails will be set head level, midrails will be set waist level. Tower type scaffold will be used.
Where scaffolding is in use it will meet the following requirements: Scaffold will be erected by
trained people and scaffold component person will check and then put the scaf-tag. Scaffolding
will be erected on a stable base. It will be fully planked and toe-boards will be placed. It will
have top and mid-guardrail and will be fixed to an existing structure or stabilized using
outriggers. Walkways will be kept clear of trash, debris and other materials to prevent slipping
and tripping.

7.5.

Manual handling

Where manual handling cannot be avoided tasks will be designed to minimize the
weight, range of motion, and frequency of the activity. During manual handling all

workers have to wear safety gloves and make sure they are protective against trip
hazards and sharp edges. The distance between the person and the object being
handled will be as small as possible. Employees will use good manual handling
techniques for lifting, pulling or pushing. Material handling equipment will be easy
to move, with handles that can be easily grasped in an upright posture. Heavy objects
will be stored at waist level. Manual handling training will be delivered.

7.6.

Edges Protection

All edge places will be closed with plastic or it will be inflected.

7.7.

Restriction

No food or beverages to be consumed at jobsite

No work without permit

7.8.

Fire prevention and protection

All the necessary fire prevention measures will be implemented. For welding activities a permit
to work will be obtained. Fire extinguisher will present at hand. Flammable materials will be
removed from the area. Fire proof blankets will be used for protection of equipment and material
where is necessary and prevention slug falling from height. The measures will be communicated
with the staff involved in the job. Watchmen will monitor the hot work area half hour after the
welding activities end.

7.9.

Emergency response

In order to minimize the consequences and to provide adequate response in case of emergency
the involved staff will receive training in accordance with the Procedure for emergencies.
