Autopsy result: Angeline died from severe head wounds

After conducting a post mortem lasting around one-and-a-half hours,
the police have released the results of an autopsy on the remains of 8-yearold Angeline, who was missing for nearly a month and was later found buried
behind her stepmother's house on Jl. Sedap Malam, Denpasar, Bali, on
Wednesday.
Forensics Division head IB Putu Alit announced in Bali that Angeline
had been presumed dead for three weeks.
In the autopsy, the police found signs of violence, namely bruises on
the face, neck, hands and legs.
"We saw a burn wound possibly from a cigarette butt on her right back.
We can confirm that the cause of her death was because of the head
wound," Putu Alit was quoted by tribunnews.com as saying.
He added that the team also discovered traces of plastic rope in four
places on the body.
Angeline was reportedly last spotted playing in front of her house on a
Saturday afternoon.
Since her disappearance, social media users had shared pictures of

Discussion
Based on the article above, the text shows that all of the clauses are in declarative mood.
The dominance of declarative mood in the article indicates that the writer concern in the article is
to give the reader information about the autopsy results on Angelina case. The writer also try to
convince the reader about the news.
Moreover, most clauses in the article use past tenses. The use of this tenses indicates that
the writer in this article wants to give the fact about what has been found by the police in the
autopsy result. By using past tense, the writer also want to tell the reader that every facts or
information in the article has taken place in the past.
According to the article, it is hard to find modality in the text. It indicates that the
information that have been delivered by the writer is close to the writer opinion. The clauses
which rarely use modality also suggest that the writer try to convince the reader that the
information in the article are factual.
The article also informs us that there is no close relation between the writer and the
subject in the news on the article. The writer mostly use the full name or the formal name for the
subject in each clauses. The writer also put his position in the third person pronoun in most of the
clauses in the article. For example when the writer write Forensics Division head IB Putu Alit,
it indicates that that the writer doesnt have close relation or pretend to doesnt have a close
relation with the police in writing the information. But in one clause the writer use we as a
subject which indicates that the information in that clause is based on the first person who have
been involved in that process of investigation. In the other hand, the information in the clause is
direct information from the resource and it is not indirect information from the writer.
The writer used circumstantial adjunct in the Most of the clauses in the article. The writer
objective in selecting these adjuncts is to add circumstantial details to the clauses, tell the reader
about the reason, the purpose, and the time in the process of investigating Angelinas case.

Conclusion
Based on Jakarta posts article entitled Autopsy result: Angeline died from severe head
wounds, it can be found that the writer use declarative mood in order to give the reader
information about how is the autopsy result. The use of past tenses in most of the clauses explain

that every single events in the articles have been taken in the past. Meanwhile, in order to give
factual information, the writer rarely use modality in writing the article.
The use of third person pronoun in the most clauses in the article are aimed to inform the
reader that the information in the article is indirect information and to show that the relation
between the writer and the subjects in the text is not close. However, there is one clause which
uses direct information in the article. In the end the circumstantial adjunct that have been
appeared in the most of the clauses in the article is aimed to tell the reader about the reason, the
purpose, and the time in the process of investigating Angelinas case.
